Betty Lou Rose Ellis of Pittsboro died at 83 years old from natural causes on Oct. 18, and a politically-themed parting request has been issued on her behalf.
"Because (Ellis) died before Election Day, the family requests in lieu of flowers that votes be cast in her honor for President Barack Obama," says an obituary that ran in The News & Observer.
The Beaufort-native is described as a "single mother with quick wit" and "always ready with a pithy quote," so maybe it's no surprise her memory is being honored with such a request.
The message also ran in the newspapers of other places Ellis lived during careers as a teacher and public relations executive.
