Obama's numbers improving in North Carolina

President Barack Obama's polling numbers continue to improve in North Carolina and his approval rating is at its highest point since last June, according to a new poll.

Obama's approval rating is now at 48 percent, with 49 percent disapproving of him, according to a survey by Public Policy Polling, a Democratic leaning firm based in Raleigh.

That is up from his low point in September, when his approval rating was at 43 percent and his disapproval rating was at 53 percent.

The General Election continues to look competitive in the state.

The poll shows Obama leading Mitt Romney 47-46, leading Rick Santorum 48-46, leading Newt Gingrich 50-45, and leading Ron Paul 47-41.

The survey of 1,052 North Carolina voters was conducted Feb. 3-5 and had a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percent.

UPDATE: Republican National Committee spokesman Matt Connelly notes that Obama's numbers haven't improved much. The PPP poll taken in January showed Obama with a 47/49 approval/disapproval rating.
