It's official: President Barack Obama will not return to North Carolina, as his campaign suggested he would do after canceling his stadium speech at the Democratic convention.
NBC News reported the president's final campaign schedule before Tuesday's election Thursday morning. "Thursday: Wisconsin, Nevada, Colorado. Friday: Ohio. Saturday: Ohio, Wisconsin, Iowa, Virginia. Sunday: New Hampshire, Florida, Ohio, Colorado Monday: Wisconsin, Ohio, Iowa."
No North Carolina. Obama hasn't visited the state since the Democratic convention, a major sign that the campaign isn't as invested in North Carolina as other states.
The schedule also flies in the face of Obama campaign advisors' instance that North Carolina remains a top tier battleground. Vice President Joe Biden and First Lady Michelle Obama have visited the state in recent weeks, but the president's schedule is seen as the major signal of where the campaign is focusing its attention.
Obama officials promised to try to arrange an event at which the president would meet with the ticket holders before the election. When the president moved his convention speech indoors it negated the tickets of the approximately 65,000 people who volunteered and waited in long lines for the opportunity to see the president's speech.
Mitt Romney's advisers and GOP operatives, who have disputed Democrats suggestion that it is competitive in North Carolina, said the president's final schedule speaks for itself.
Obama spokeswoman Stephanie Cutter told NBC News the campaign was "hitting every battleground state."
