NRSC fundraiser was private

National Republican Senatorial Committee spokesman Brian Walsh said the organization will not say who attended Monday night’s health care roundtable and dinner at Washington, D.C., steakhouse, where U.S. Sen. Richard Burr was a featured speaker.

"We don’t release names of those who attend private events," Walsh said, adding that the NRSC will disclose its contributors as required under federal campaign law.

"This policy is no different than countless fund-raisers by President Obama," Walsh said.

Burr, who sits on the Senate health committee, was one of three GOP senators who spoke on behalf of the NRSC fund-raiser Monday night, Barb Barrett reports.

For checks of $2,000 per political action committee, up to 35 attendees were offered seats at a "Roundtable on Healthcare Issues" at Charlie Palmer’s steakhouse. A more exclusive group of 20 could stay for dinner at a cost of $5,000, according to the invitation posted by the Sunlight Foundation.

Also speaking were Republican U.S. Sens. Charles Grassley of Iowa, the top Republican on the Senate Finance Committee, and Mike Enzi of Wyoming, who sits on both committees.

Burr’s campaign consultant earlier said the Burr campaign had no details about who attended the NRSC event.

A blogger at Huffington Post tried to crash the event but was prevented access. He did, however, chat with a representative of the American Staffing Association and a hospital CEO from Texas.

Hagan's Roundtable on Healthcare

Hagan July 2009 FEC report

Seems that without the Huffington Post doing the dirty work for the N&O, no investigative research gets done...

A simple FEC search shows that Hagan must have had a recent event with Healthcare Lobbyist...oh my!

Not saying I mind because Hagan has been standing up for North Carolinians in this debate, but just pointing out my original point that this is a norm in DC!

Re: NRSC fundraiser was private policy roundtable

"Fundraisers" are always limited to those who "pay" to attend.

Yes they are CO. And those are called parties.

This, however, was called a "Roundtable on Healthcare Issues" in DC with limited seating. They're paying to play on policy, not eat peanuts and drink Pepsi.

Re: NRSC fundraiser was private

What's team burrp? Is that like team Obama?

Re: NRSC fundraiser was private

The first report I read of a ticket confirmation for the Obama event was from a GOP county chair.

Re: NRSC fundraiser was private

nice try bnartist, but my entire family attended and I'm DEFINITELY NOT on a Friends of Tom Fetzer list.

Do you really think tomorrow's audience will not be loaded with "friends" of Kay Hagan, David Price, Bob Ethridge, Dumpling, Basnight, Miller, Rand (can I stop now?). Even you aren't THAT naive, are you? I still wonder if Eliz Edwards will make a grand entrance. Your sources tell you anything on her yet?

Sure, in true Dem/Lib fashion there will be a photo op sampling of the usual 5-6 "Victims R Us" set up where the camera can show'em on cue. That's smart politics and no one ever accused Dems of not being clever politicians and media managers. I just wish my folks were half as good at "politics".

You gonna be there bnartist?

Re: NRSC fundraiser was private

Bush's Raleigh town hall may have been free but tickets were not freely available and it was not open to all. The event was arranged by Tom Fetzer and tickets distributed primary through the NC GOP and the offices of Republicans Dole and Burr.

Re: NRSC fundraiser was private

"Fundraisers" are always limited to those who "pay" to attend. That's how they got the name "fundraisers". Both parties have them all the time. A prominent Democrat matron inside the beltline has hosted numerous such private soirees for Gore, Kerry, Clinton, Edwards, et al.

I'm sure "prominent local Democrats" like Gigglebox are always invited to attend. Right "Giggle"?

Bush's "Town Hall" on Social Security several years ago was at Memorial Audit and absolutely FREE and open to the public and Media. It was packed. I was there as were all the little pointy-teethed boys from the N&O.

Darn those pesky "facts".

Re: NRSC fundraiser was private

Oh, please. You're on at least your third username and well versed in personal attacks. Appropriate choice. Romulus Augustus was 12 years old.

Re: Guy from Locke Foundation that just joined

Where was the liberal outrage...?

At the voting booth last November.

Did you miss that part planning all your teabaggin' and birther parties?

Re: NCDP roadie who spends all day in the comment section

Equating private fundraisers with Obama's "free meeting" liberal policy-campaign can't be taken seriously.

Where was the liberal outrage when Obama was holding his own private fundraisers, like the one in San Francisco (gee, I wonder what the private interest being represented there was) where he made his 'Pennsylvanians are dimwits' remarks?

Re: NRSC fundraiser was private

This coming from a guy that has changed his screen name on here from Gosh to Gigglebox and is the first to post misguided rhetoric on any story that pertains to Burr and resorts to personal attacks against anyone that sheds a factual light on the situation...

I am not saying I am going to vote for Burr - he voted for the Bank Bailout and was part of Congress, although in the minority since 2006, that helped this country start its path towards socialism...

I am merely commenting on the blatant partisan nature of this post - everyone knows that this happens on both sides of the aisle..

I am glad the N&O has become a TMZ of sorts...

Re: NRSC fundraiser was private

Without question the News & Observer is attempting to act with the normal "objectivity" of the media...

I mean it did take them over eight years to finally do some real reporting on Easley...

And Ole Tony Rand gets a pass considering there is NO conflict of interest in his representation of Mary Easley...

Or perhaps Kay Hagan's husband suing the state over some water...

The list goes on forever...

Awesome, Burr people attacking press like Palin now!

Oh God, you're not seriously trying to make a story out of this, are you Ben?

...I see you're one of the relative handful who voted in the 2nd Democrat primary last year. Must really be a dedicated Dem voter to do that, even in Durham County.

Where do you people come from, and where do I donate!?!

I'm seriously wondering if the NCDP should just start paying Team Burrp's payroll now.

Re: NRSC fundraiser was private

Oh God, you're not seriously trying to make a story out of this, are you Ben?

They're going to tell you who donated how much, as per the law. And since you had to pay to get a seat, then we'll know in due time who all was there.

Is the news day really this slow, or are you a partisan hack like that? Will every private fundraiser receive this kind of scrutiny now?

I see you're one of the relative handful who voted in the 2nd Democrat primary last year. Must really be a dedicated Dem voter to do that, even in Durham County.

Re: NRSC fundraiser was private

My health insurance is affordable thanks!

IF you think the public-option is so great, why don't you forego yoru entire salary to help fund the system, including illegal immigrants and those that do not pay taxes...

Do you think that health insurance is also guaranteed to us in the US Constitution?

Re: Burr fundraiser was private

Is Burr running against Hagan, czarromulusaugustus?

Or just Americans that want affordable health care?

Re: Burr 'roundtable' on healthcare with Lobbyists was private

I pay for my own health insurance and I am very happy with my health insurance provider - I would rather work hard and know I earned my own living than have the government take someone else's hard earned money to provide for my health insurance!

Re: NRSC fundraiser was private

Career politicians breed corruption and lies. Vote them out or they and their cronies die in office.

Option one....you win
Option two....you lose

Re: Burr 'roundtable' on healthcare with Lobbyists was private

All I was saying - you partisan hack - is simply that campaigns do this type of event all the time...

Really? They host $2000 a seat private "roundtable fundraisers" on a "single issue" before the Senate and invite only those that can pay "all the time?"

I must have missed the price tag when I got invited to Obama's latest FREE Town Hall with REAL North Carolinians then.

And you should seriously do something about that hack in your throat. You could get sick before we reform this mess.

Re: NRSC fundraiser was private

If Americans want affordable healthcare then why are they promoting a plan that will only increase costs according to the CBO? Even the "Blue Dog" Democrats are not on board, because they have to go home and explain to their constituents the increase in costs over the long-term!

All I was saying - you partisan hack - is simply that campaigns do this type of event all the time...

Senator Hagan did it, Senator Burr did it, I am sure Senator Dole even did it...

I just expect the Under the Dome staff to provide the same investigative research to whomever the DSCC can convince to take its money and run against Burr...

Re: NRSC fundraiser was private

Similiar to Hagan's openness when she attended the "Godless American PAC" fundraiser in Boston, set up and managed by ActBlue...

Get a grip!

Burr a Private Dancer

A dancer for money
Do what you want him to do.

Glad we cleared up that whole Burr lack of transparency thing and who really calls the shots for our Senior Senator!

A Burr campaign spokesman said he did not have a list of attendees handy since the event was run by the NRSC. He said he would try to get more information.

Well done again Team Burrp!
