Rep. Norman Sanderson has announced that he seek the state Senate seat currently held by fellow Republican Jean Preston, who has said she will not seek re-election.
Sanderson, who owns a child care business in Havelock, won in House seat in 2010 when he defeated Democratic incumbent Alice Graham Underhill.
“Senator Preston has set the bar high when it comes to hard work, ethical standards and sound fiscal accountability,” Sanderson said in a statement. “I assure the people of the 2nd district that I will uphold the legacy as strive to be their next state senator.”
Among his list of endorsements is Rep. Pat McElraft, Carteret County Sheriff Asa Buck, Robin Comer, the chairman of the Carteret County commissioners, Tom Mark, a member of the Craven County board of commissioners, and Ken Heath and Chris Mele, both Pamlico County commissioners.
