NCAE: We're at war over budget

Teachers have more than year-end tests to worry about this month. They've been asked to get to take their battle stations.

The N.C. Association of Educators has launched an effort to prevent cuts to the state education budget and convince legislators to raise taxes, Lynn Bonner reports.

A memo posted on the organization's web site cuts to the chase. "We're at war," says the title.

The state budget has the potential to cut more than 10,000 education jobs, by NCAE's count, and cut pay for nearly everyone else if legislators decide to cut days out of the school year.

Among other strategies, the head office wants local NCAE members to call an emergency meeting with legislators from their region, especially House members.

"This delegation will be briefed on the effect of the House's draconian cuts to public education and the necessity for increasing revenue," says the war plan.

Re: NCAE: We're at war over budget

Please look at the social services budget that the state funds. Why can't we share in the short fall. The state spends billions on other programs and they are not getting cuts. People need to look at how much money is being spent for each county. I was blown away. Law makers need to cut funding for programs that use our money instead of cutting teachers and assistance. They say the they are not doing this , the counties have no choice when our leaders are not going to give funds to each county to keep its teachers and assistance. Also , look at the One North Carolina Fund, it is giving millions away each day to business , where is the money coming to fund this , lottery?

Re: NCAE: We're at war over budget

Because the lottery has not been treated as additional funds, it has been treated as "displacement funds". Any money sent to education from the lottery was used to replace funds from other sources so that money could be spent on something else. Straight bait and switch game. Very old con....

NCAE, SEANC.....deserve everything they get from their leaders and the folks they put in office in Raleigh!

NCAE sleeping in bed it made

YAWN!!!

NCAE and the education union they affiliate with spent millions of dollars to elect the Democrats that will make the decisions on this budget.

They aren't going to do anything. They have battered woman's syndrome.

And after they take the beating they have coming in this budget they'll crawl back to the Democrats in the 2010 election lavishing millions of union dollars on them in an effort to reelect their batterer.

Until they show some ability to walk away from this relationship or actually stand up for themselves they ought to be quiet.

On the other hand, I have a great deal of sympathy for the rank and file teachers that suffer the real fallout from the abusive relationship their Union bosses have the Democrat Leadership in North Carolina.

I'm confused. The state lottery raised $1 billion for education over the last three years. Why would we need to cut education spending when there was an additional $1B in funds?
