NC Libertarians set their goals

The Libertarian Party developed a plan for 2020: win one seat in the state Senate and four seats in the state House.

That was one result of their state convention held in Flat Rock over the weekend. J.J Summerell was reelected state chair, John Caveny was re-elected treasurer Alex Vuchnich of Charlotte was elected vice chair and Barbara Howe of Oxford was elected recording secretary.

Summerell said there had been a 50 percent increase in party membership in 2012, which he said was attributable to dissatisfaction with the Democratic and Republican Parties.

“A healthy part of that growth can also be attributed to youth groups such as Students for Liberty, which are spreading like wildfire on college campuses,” Summerell said.
