Ahead of this weekend's MerleFest, the N.C. House is planning to honor its founder Doc Watson on Thursday for his "lasting legacy of his music."
Watson is Deep Gap native and legendary musician known for his flat-picking guitar style. He started Merlefest in 1988 as a tribute to his son who died in a tractor accident. It has now grown into one of the top acoustic-music events in the nation. This weekend's festival at Wilkes Community College is the first since his death in May 2012.
