N.C. Democrats are the face of the national party convention. The state delegations front-row seat puts them right in front of the bank of newspaper photographers and TV cameras, who capture their excitement with every major applause line.
"We are getting texts from relatives and friends from all across the country," said Denise Adams, a state delegate sitting in the front row (photo center, in red). "They are seeing us all over the TV networks.
The delegation's front row is such a coveted seat many delegates are alternating with their colleagues toward the back. But a dozen cameras aimed at you constantly is also a burden. "You have to make sure you don't blink too much," said Chaz Beasley, a 26-year-old delegate in the front row. He also finds himself smiling a lot. "That's what tooth paste is for," he added.
