N.C. Dems push Obama health care plan

State Democratic Chairman David Young today issued what he called “an urgent call” to Tar Heel Democrats to lobby for President Barack Obama plans to overhaul the nation’s health care system.

At a Raleigh news conference Wednesday afternoon, Young said there were 1.5 million North Carolinians with no health insurance and that 13 percent of the state’s children were not covered, reports Rob Christensen.

He warned that the opposition will use “scare tactics” to try to defeat needed health care changes. Despite charges of a government takeover of health care, Young said Obama has repeatedly said people can keep their own private insurance under his proposal, but would have the option of enrolling in a government-backed plan.

As part of a panel, Gail Johnson of Raleigh talked about the difficulty in getting treatment for her diabetes with no health insurance. It was only after she got help from the Alliance Medical Ministry, which helps low income people, that she was able to get the treatment she needs.

Jack Nichols, chairman of the Wake County Democratic Party, said Republicans were trying to sink the health care program in order to score points against Obama.

“Now is not the time to play politics with health care,” Nichols said.

The N.C. Democratic Party will have held 28 events in 10 days related to pushing the health care overhaul effort, according to Andrew Whalen, the party’s executive director.

The DiseaseMongers Pulling Obama's Strings

Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington. Her organization sued the Department of Homeland Security on Wednesday after the Secret Service refused to hand over records of visits by top health care executives to the White House. Hours after the suit was filed, the White House released a list that showed 27 top health care executives have visited the White House since February but the Obama administration has so far ignored other parts of the group’s freedom of information request

Re: N.C. Dems push Obama health care plan

I'd be ashamed to go public and say I supported this plan. I've emailed the NCDP and given them a piece of my mind on this boondoggle. I asked if they've heard of those "well financed" gov't programs like Social Security and Medicare and the US Postal Svc and ... Want it be great to add my health care plan to this red ink list. Are we following the lambs to slaughter?

Re: N.C. Dems push Obama health care plan

The health care plan will accomplish one good thing. It will beat a lot of libs next election.America will be sick of this marxist crap by then.

Re: N.C. Dems push Obama health care plan

I called Brad Miller, David Price, Heath Shuler and Kay Hagan's offices yesterday. Asked if they were planning on having any town hall meetings about health care. Not one of them is. These Democrats plan on nationalizing 15% of the national economy, and they don't have the time to hear from their constituents? Thought this was supposed to be all about Change?

Re: N.C. Dems push Obama health care plan

Ask your Congress Critter if THEY will accept the mandated healthcare for themselves? If not, dont vote for it! Fair is fair...

Remember, healthcare is NOT a RIGHT nor a FUNCTION of OUR government!

EACH must pay his/her own, just like car insurance! Mandate that EACH must provide his own!

charles malone probably pays ZERO taxes too...

and david young is SUCH a femme wussy...

Re: N.C. Dems push Obama health care plan

The Wake Democratic Party did a public service by supporting the health care forum for the public today. Just because it is a political organization that steps up to give voice to arguably the most telling issue of the day--providing affordable and universal health care in America--does not mean the event is only a political exercise. The people are not well served when political parties can only throw stones at the intentions of the rival party when it steps up to advocate a plan of action.

And, yes, a reformed health care plan will cost a lot of money. But what price do we affix to what the preamble of our U. S. Constitution instructs us to do in order to build a "more perfect Union," and to "establish justice...and insure domestic tranquility?" I don't know what the cost will be in just dollars and cents, but America--lead by Democrats-- has found a way for the poor through Medicaid and the elderly through Medicare, and now the Democratic Party leadership in Washington is preparing to find a way to provide the people with a truly reformed and affordable health care package, and this is being done in the can-do spirit that's as American as apple pie, as old as the Constiution and as daring as landing humans on the moon, naysayers and Republicans notwithstanding.

Re: N.C. Dems push Obama health care plan

Where is a article in the front pages on the Healthcare meeting at the RBC Center yesterday evening. I saw Rob Christensen there. There Pat McCrory and others presented real solutions to reforming healthcare. Nice one sided reporting you guiys have here. And you wonder why your going broke.

Jack Nichols is only Wake Dem chief because Democratic voters rejected his politics in favor of Josh Stein. Nichols is and will always be a Dem insider who cares nothing for the working class, just about his power. When the RWCA held a forum to decide Blue's replacement for the 33rd he stayed away from me and never had the courtesy to shake my hand. Yes I am a Republican and I have the best interests of the working class. Democrats want you to be comforted in your poverty and to remain dependent on them. I want you to be able to pursue the American dream and know that I will work for you, not my party.

That is why I will running against the winner of the Dem primary for the 33rd House seat next year. I say no to government run healthcare and the rationing of medical services. I say yes to a system made affordable through reforms that benefit you not the government.

Re: N.C. Dems push Obama health care plan

Obama says we need to decrease the rise of health care costs - so what does the Democrats do? All of the proposals they have come out with increase the rise of health care costs even more (according to the non-partisan CBO). Republicans such as myself are not against Obama and figuring out a way to cover everyone with health care, but we are against causing the rise of health care costs to be even higher, and dumping a trillion dollars onto the backs of our children and grandchildren that they will have to pay - so if you call this being political, then you obviously need a reality check. Granted something needs done with health care, but all of the proposals so far are bad for America, and are rightfully being criticized. I think both Democrats and Rebublicans need to work together to solve this - as mentioned Rebublicans agree something needs done, so they would be willing to work with Democrats as the majority party if the Democrats take their suggestions seriously.

Re: N.C. Dems push Obama health care plan

I only "wish" that Repubs would/could "play politics" as well as the Dems do. Repubs tendency to cannibalize each other makes us easy pickins for the lock-step Dems.
