More attention on Cunningham

Cal CunninghamCal Cunningham got some more favorable press.

The former state senator is mentioned prominently in an article in the Washington-based Roll Call newspaper about prospects for the 2010 Senate race:

Former Tar Heel state Democratic Party Chairman Jerry Meek said this week that if Cunningham were to enter the race, he would be someone who would have to be taken seriously.

"He's got an excellent profile in terms of his biography," Meek said. "He's perceived as being a little bit more liberal than, say, Mike McIntyre and Heath Shuler."

If one of the Congressmen decides to run and the DSCC and local party leaders can’t clear the field, Cunningham could be a dark horse in a primary where the electorate would be mostly hard-core Democrats in a midterm election.

"There's certainly going to be some folks who perceive Shuler or McIntyre as being too conservative," he said.

The article also notes that U.S. Reps. Heath Shuler or Mike McIntyre would be considered frontrunners if they jumped in the race, and says state Sen. Dan Blue, former Obama fundraiser Kenneth Lewis and Rep. Brad Miller are also "being mentioned."

Yeah Gosh, lets bash Jerry Meek that took over the NCDP and under his leadership Dems increased and maintained control of the State legislature, Captured all but 2 Statewide offices in 08, increased Democratic U.S. Reps to an 8-5 majority in 08, defeated incumbant Elizabeth Dole with a no name state senator Kay Hagan, and helped to deliver NC's 15 electoral votes to Democrat Barack Obama and the first time the Tar Heel State backed a dem for President since 1976. What does he know?

That aside. Cal Cunningham would be a huge asset to this state and a great way to begin changing the perception of the NCDP and be positive young leader for Tar Heels in DC.

Meek blows it on Cal?

Anybody that enters a Federal Senate campaign is always taken seriously! No doubt Mr Meek believes that all democrats are created equal while some democrats are more equal than other democrats........

Sigh.

So glad Meek stepping down hasn't stopped him from being the go-to guy for any DC gossip columnist under a deadline looking for someone to stir the primary pot.

I take it the official response of the actual NCDP was none.
