Moore: I'll back Perdue

Richard Moore said he will support Beverly Perdue.

The state treasurer told the Winston-Salem Journal that he will back his former rival for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination, but he did not elaborate on whether that would include a public endorsement or campaigning.

"I've always said that I'm a Democrat, and I will support the Democratic ticket," he said.

Mac McCorkle, a Perdue adviser, also told the paper that her campaign has talked with Moore about a potential endorsement, arguing that discussion was going "at a pretty good pace" despite the fact that the May 6 primary was more than a month ago.

"It was a hard-fought primary, and probably, both sides just needed some breathing room," he said.
