Ed McMahan is resigning from the Republican National Committee.
State Republican Party Chair Linda Daves e-mailed party leaders this week that he would step down as one of the North Carolina's three representatives on the committee, David Ingram reports. McMahan, an executive with an architecture firm, has been a national committeeman since September 2005.
He is also a former N.C. House member and fundraiser for President George W. Bush.
Daves said in an interview Thursday that she did not know McMahan's immediate plans. She said she expects McMahan will help Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory in his bid for the GOP nomination for governor.
McMahan, 63, said two weeks ago that he was calling state Republicans to help McCrory gauge possible support, adding he would do it for any Republican candidate.
