Rep. Mike McIntyre is giving Republicans a tough time on the campaign trail.
Roll Call reports that McIntyre is overcoming Republican predictions that he was an easy target to unseat after redistricting increased the number of Republicans in his district. McIntyre, a Lumberton Democrat, is being challenged by Republican state Sen. David Rouzer.
"There's a lot of concern on the Republican side," a longtime, influential North Carolina GOP consultant told Roll Call. "McIntyre is going to be hard to shake loose."
Rouzer is a credible candidate, but the newspaper reports that McIntyre is a "surprisingly resilient" support among independents and has "painted almost none of the easy Democratic bull's-eyes on his back" for Republicans to target.
