McCrory's day job

How much does Pat McCrory make a year?

The Republican gubernatorial candidate has twice referenced his own salary at recent debates when arguing that the state's education system should focus more on technical training.

At a debate on WRAL recently, McCrory said that plumbers working on his house make more than he does. And at an education debate at the SAS Institute today, he said information technology workers made more.

After today's debate, Dome asked McCrory how much he makes.

"Right now, I'm making $39,000 a year — that's my mayor's salary," he said.

McCrory resigned his job as a recruiter for Duke Energy in Charlotte before filing to run for governor in the Republican primary. He said he and his wife are living off of savings.

He would not reveal his most recent salary at Duke.

"I'm not going to get into my salary, but let me put it this way: I'm middle class. I'm not a wealthy individual," he said, drawing a contrast with Democrat Beverly Perdue.

"You don't see myself lending my campaign any money," he said. "My opponent can lend herself a million dollars. I cannot."

Re: McCrory's day job

Please show me were McCrory is a government hater. You must be a government employee. What is your concern over his Duke salary? Let's focus on the real issues facing NC. Do you not understand that McCrory get's nothing when he leaves the mayor's office. He get's not retirement from Duke. Do your homework before you get so consumed by reckless attack. Is out of outside of simple reasoning that he maybe a steward of the money he has.

"Isn't it interesting that government-haters seem so interested in landing jobs paid for by taxpayers?"

How about those government-lovers who supposedly devote their lives to lofty claims of "public service" like democrats, Mary Easley or Erskin Bowles and are lavished with lucrative paychecks courtesy of NC taxpayers?

No surprise that McCrory's continuing to dodge questions about his financial picture. What he makes in terms of "salary" is not the point. What really matters is whether or not he's dependent on Duke Energy for his financial well-being.

I don't know a lot of people as young as McCrory who have the luxury of "living off of savings." I guess he's counting on slipping back into Duke Energy's pockets in the likely event he doesn't get that cushy job with the state government.
