McCrory won't run again as mayor

Pat McCrory will not run for an eighth term as mayor.

At a press conference this afternoon, the longtime Charlotte mayor and recent unsuccessful Republican gubernatorial nominee said he made the decision in January, regardless of whether he won or lost his campaign for governor.

McCrory said he is proud of the work he's done as mayor creating a new transit system and fighting property tax increases, among other things. His final term will end in December of 2009.

"My heart wants to stay in this job forever, but my soul knows it is time to move on," he said. "As I complete my term in December 2009, I will look to use my skills and experience in other ways in both the public and private sector."

He said that he will consider running for other elected office in the future at either the state or federal level, saying he still has a "desire to serve."

"I will always be honored to be known as 'Mayor Pat,'" he said.

Re: McCrory won't run again as mayor

NORTH CAROLINA LOST A GREAT OPPORTUNITY WHEN MCCRORY LOST THE GUBERNATORIAL ELECTION, A TRUE CHANCE TO BREAK THE HOLD FAVORITISM HAS ON RALEIGH AND BRING SOME HONESTY AND DECENCY TO THE OFFICE. WE OF CHARLOTTE ARE FORTUNATE TO HAVE HAD SUCH A GREAT LEADER TO GUIDE THE GROWTH IN THE METRO AREA.
THE FACT THAT PERDUE WAS WASHED IN WITH THE OBAMA TIDE ONLY DENOTES THAT INNERCITY VOTERS WERE ENERGIZED, PAVLOV WOULD BE PROUD. THANK THE STARS MACKEY WASN'T THE GUBERNATORIAL CANDIDATE. BRACE OURSELVES TWICE, ONCE AGAINST 4 MORE YEARS OF THE SAME NEGLECT IN THE SOUTHERN PIEDMONT BY RALEIGH, AND AGAIN AGAINST THE ASSAULT OBAMA HAS MOUNTED AGAINST THE MIDDLE CLASS CITIZEN WHO HAS TRIED TO DO THE CORRECT AND HONEST THING, PAID HIS BILLS AND MORGAGE MONTHLY, PLAN FOR RETIREMENT. STAND CLEAR, SHE'S GONNA BLOW!
IS PERDUE SELLING HER HOME IN ORDER TO ESTABLISH HERSELF IN CHARLOTTE? AFTER ALL IT IS HER SECOND HOME SHE SAID. RIGHT! COME ON DOWN AND JOIN THE FUN.

"My heart wants to stay in this job forever, but my soul knows it is time to move on,"

I realize this might be a little unorthodox, and it might even take a little time locating it, but what does your brain say about this?

Why R I so mean?

Why are you being so mean? Assuming you are a democrat, we are of the same party...

Your Honor, I rest my case.

Can't trust a single person in NC that votes Republican. Half of them are really DemonCrats, just like on the TeeVee.

Re: McCrory won't run again as mayor

Why are you being so mean? Assuming you are a democrat, we are of the same party - except I am of that Poligenic branch of Democrats who can actually can hold two opposing thoughts in my head at one time. The koolaid may look good, but the taste is what matters. Goodnight and good luck.

Re: McCrory won't run again as mayor

Hey WWF,

Hey, Gosh. Your creativity is interesting. I think I'd enjoy your wit at a dinner party.

I'd enjoy your company at a party too. But only because everything your political party says about me on AM radio is true.

There will be brainwashing at our dinner party, lot's of MSNBC, plus at the end of the evening you will forevermore be considered Ground Zero of the PoliGenics program that saved the human race from your kind.

Re: McCrory won't run again as mayor

Hey, Gosh. Your creativity is interesting. I think I'd enjoy your wit at a dinner party. So in the holiday spirit that warms my heart, I'll give you until January 9th or so to indulge in your bragging rights.

I wasn't re-writing history at all. I simply pointed out that sooner rather than later, Gov-elect Perdue's victory in November is just that - a historical vote that put a woman in the Governor's mansion. Good for her. A simple fact. What she does, or doesn't do, what she accomplishes, or doesn't accomplish, will be on her. Will that be good for all of us? Who knows. But I do know that she, nor her creative supporters, won't be able to blame Pat McCrory or George Bush or even Senators Basnight or Rand for her failures. She will stand alone to be judged on her own performance. The proof, as they say, will be in the dumplin', er, pudding. That history is hers alone to write.

See you at the inaugural festivies!! Best regards, WWF

Re: McCrory won't run again as mayor

Dear WWF,

I don't care about your ivory branch or revisionist history of what's at stake.

Perhaps you like sports, so here's what's really at stake then... Bragging rights.

There's no State or Duke fans after UNC wins the NCAA going, let's see if the Heels can pull it off.

Guess why? You lost. It's been pulled off!

And the horse you rode in on.

See ya in a few years when opposition matters again.

'Cause WE ARE THE CHAmpions, mAH frI-END....

aND we'LL KEEP ON FIGHTING, 'TIL THE END.

cAUSE weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee ARE THE CHAMPIONS, weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee ARE THE CHAMPIONS, no time for losers cause we are the champions....

TIL THE END.

Re: McCrory won't run again as mayor

Dear Gosh - your creativity is impressive albeit a bit of the 'protesteth too much' genre. Gov-elect Perdue needs to step up to the plate and demonstrate the leadership she has promised to deliver.

We all know that Gov-elect Perdue needs to swiftly move beyond campaign slogans and reinvigorating exisiting programs, and put a leadership team into place that can actually fix, reorganze or dismantle systems and agencies that have long been broken. The clock is ticking and there is really very little time remaining that she, or her supporters like you, can continue to talk about Mayor McCrory and his alleged shortcomings.

If Gov-elect Perdue fails to act swiftly and decisively - even at times perhaps against the wishes of her mentors Basnight and Rand - to make substantive changes in the public policy pudding, she will, in the very near future begin to write the end of her story.

McCrory not rich? Maybe he should clean his OWN house more.

Surely when Pittenger comes over to the McCrory's for a BBQ at least a couple million fall out of his trousers in the sofa?

Since McCrory lost, I guess we'll just have to take McCroryManager's word for it from back in October when McCrory promised to come clean IF elected.

http://projects.newsobserver.com/under_the_dome/mccrory_pledges_openness_if_elected

McCrory is not wealthy.

Wow, I'm satisfied. Especially since that Tuesday in November when McCrory became about as politically relevant as his campaign manager's word.

Re: McCrory won't run again as mayor

Not sure why you continually consider McCrory a multimillionaire. Do you just look at how successful Charlotte is and think if people are from Charlotte they must be making millions of dollars? I think you must have Pat mistaken with Bev, who just put up her country club estate on the market for 2.7 million. Where can a working guy like me find the money to get a stately manner like that? I guess only people who find corrupt ways to make money off their state government jobs can do that. Here's a report card:

Under Democrat leadership in this state:

DOT- FAILED
MENTAL HEALTH SYSTEM- FAILED
PROBATION SYSTEM- FAILED
KEEPING UNEMPLOYMENT DOWN- FAILED

McCrory/Pittenger teaching tour coming to clueless NC soon

It would be great to see McCrory and Robert Pittenger team up and travel around the state starting soon, bringing NC's REAL NEED for CHANGE to the clueless...

That would be great. Where can a regular working guy get tickets to see those two multi-millionaire footnotes talk down to me?

Re: McCrory won't run again as mayor

It is truly a shame that Pat McCrory lost by a hair, and we hope he will try again to bring NC out of the culture of corruption, pay to play government that is oppressed upon the citizens in our once great state.

It would be great to see McCrory and Robert Pittenger team up and travel around the state starting soon, bringing NC's REAL NEED for CHANGE to the clueless who dont understand whats been done to them in the highest taxes state in the region.

Hey concerned53, the vid link to McCroroy's Mea Culpa very nice

I had no idea Pat McCrory nor his staff did nothing wrong, and in fact he would have won if not for Candidate Obama's efforts in this state.

Seems to me and most people that read that Patty McPat Pat McCheesey Pat Pat Patty Pat was the ONLY candidate in America for Governor to campaign WITH GEORGE W. BUSH. Who didn't see that bad idea coming? Huh?

But I'm glad to watch Mayor McCheese now sit on a stool before a green screen and tell us he made no mistakes, and the new President made him lose.

What a leader.

Who was his campaign mananger anyway? Losey McLoser Lose-A-Lot (formerly of the Permanent Majority)?

Re: McCrory-a terrific mayor for 7 terms

So why doesn't Mayor McCheese go for an 8th term?

Bad judgment?

Bad staff counseling?

Worst Campaign Manager ever?

Embarrassment after getting spanked by a woman for Governor?

Can't admit he really wants to be Mayor McCheese anymore after trying to run for Governor McCheese?

Incompetence?

Incontinence?

Hamburglar blackmailing him?

Grimace has photos of him with Fry Guys?

Carowinds and Congress won’t front his McCharlotte bailout anymore?

Or, is Anthony Foxx just too darn scary?

Hey Concerned, go get concerned over the price of a Big Mac since gas is approaching a dollar a gallon since Democrats took back over and scared OPEC back to hell.

McCrory-a terrific mayor for 7 terms

McCrory has been a great mayor and visionary leader of Charlotte over the past 7 terms in a city where democrats and independents outnumber republicans by 3:1. As former democratic mayor, Harvey Gantt said, obviously he has done a good job to be re-elected that many times. And to do this without a trace of corruption (or "pay to play") that WBT just stated is prevalent in Raleigh (and Illinois) is remarkable.

Thanks Mayor McCrory!

Re: And despite McCheese's promises...

I think you mean the Hamburglar.

And despite McCheese's promises...

The Burger King is still at large.
