McCrory hits the airwaves

Pat McCrory will hit the airwaves Wednesday morning with his first TV ads in his bid for the GOP nomination for governor.

The Charlotte mayor intends to spend more than $100,000 on the Raleigh, Greensboro, and Charlotte markets over the next 10 days, Rob Christensen reports.

The ads feature McCrory talking into the camera, according to Jack Hawke, his chief strategist.

"Pat got in late," Hawke said. "At least two other candidates have been up on televison and spent more money."

"In essense, we are playing catch up," Hawke said.

Two Republican candidates have run ads: state Sen. Fred Smith and Salisbury attorney Bill Graham. A fourth GOP candidate, Bob Orr, has not run ads.

Ads as candidates

I think Senator Smith is the only one that has run ads as a candidate. Graham only ran ads during his gas tax and anti-illegal immigration efforts. I don't remember seeing a Graham add since 2006 or early 2007, unless he is running somewhere in the state outside of Raleigh.
