Pat McCrory will start his campaign with $400,000.
The longtime Charlotte mayor filed paperwork with the State Board of Elections showing that he transferred $417,063 from his mayoral campaign to his gubernatorial campaign on Jan. 14, David Ingram reports.
Recent reports for his Republican rivals are not available, although state Sen. Fred Smith topped the group as of last June with $171,313.
The top candidates in the 2004 Republican primary each spent at least $1.2 million.
According to the forms, McCrory contributed $4,000 to N.C. House Republicans and $1,000 to the state senate campaign of Bob Rucho, a Matthews Republican.
