Former Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory had some encouraging words for Heather Losurdo, who lost her Wake County school board race last week to Kevin Hill.
“I want to thank you for having the courage to run for public office,” McCrory told Losurdo when she stood to ask a question at a fund raiser for McCrory at the North Raleigh Hilton Tuesday.
“I just think unwarranted personal attacks against you hurt our democratic system,” McCrory said. “I feel for your and your family for what you had to go through. I commend you for the courage to stand up to it. Regardless of whether you are democrat or Republican, it doesn't make any difference to me. no one deserves some of the personal attacks you went through.”
McCrory, the likely GOP candidate for governor, recorded a telephone message for Losurdo before the election. Her loss to Kevin Hill was closely watched, because it flipped control of the Wake school board from Republican to Democrat.
During the runoff, some questions were raised about Losurdo's resume.
