Pat McCrory is calling for a debate on a recent TV ad.
The Republican gubernatorial nominee sent an open letter challenging his opponent, Democrat Beverly Perdue, to participate in a forum at Wake Tech.
"Unfortunately, the Democratic Party and labor unions have decided to start an advertising war with negative attack television advertising," he wrote. "You and I know we can do better for the voters."
In a letter forwarded to reporters this afternoon, McCrory wrote that the two candidates could debate the ad's charges that he opposes the minimum wage, supports pay increases for politicians and opposes free community college tuition.
"We can clarify the issues by meeting face-to-face in an open, televised forum to discuss the charges and their truthfulness or pertinence," he wrote.
Perdue and McCrory have already committed to four debates before the November election.
Update: Perdue wrote back this afternoon, saying she would not agree to another debate.
"As you are aware, we have committed to five televised debates — more than in any modern gubernatorial campaign in North Carolina or any modern presidential election," she wrote.

Re: McCrory's false calls on ads
If Mayor McCrory knew about the negative ads before they aired, I would think that "Positive Bev" would have known as well.
But why didn't she denounce them or distance herself from them? Because she and her campaign were totally responsible for them! Bev is the one that needs to apologize, but not to Pat. Instead to North Carolina's voters for never planning to run or support a positive campaign, despite her pledge!
She really is a wolf in sheep's clothing.
