McCrory blasts Perdue over ads

CHARLOTTE - Pat McCrory blasted Beverly Perdue today for what he called misleading ads designed to provoke anti-Charlotte sentiment in other parts of the state.

Speaking to the Charlotte Rotary, McCrory reminded members that Perdue, from New Bern, praised Charlotte when she spoke to the same group earlier this month, reports Jim Morrill.

"The problem is she's saying just the opposite in other parts of the state," he said.

McCrory criticized a TV spot that says he "wants to let New York and New Jersey dump their garbage in North Carolina" - a particularly sensitive issue in rural eastern North Carolina. He also criticized a new radio ad that features a paid of self-styled "country boys" suggesting McCrory wants to build roads in Charlotte at the expense of rural areas.

Perdue spokesman Dave Kochman said the ads are based on statements McCrory has made.

"Those ads are about Pat McCrory and his record of pitting one region against another," Kochman said, "and that's the wrong direction for North Carolina."

Perdue has stepped up her Charlotte appearances, visiting five times in the last two weeks. She told crowds that, as governor, she would work in Charlotte three or four days a month, and that making Charlotte residents feel like a part of the state one of her biggest priorities as governor.

Re: McCrory/Beverly not tied; Perdue leads

I appreciate the compliment! I hope that when Perdue wins, I can get back to my real job(:
THE ticket for 2008:
Obama/Perdue/Hagan

Re: McCrory/Beverly not tied; Perdue leads

I am saying this in a friendly way, you should change your name from picking perdue to Perdue's Pitbull. You are great!!!! I disagree with everything you write, but you are absolutely the most aggressive, relentless, blogger I have seen. Bev would take great pride in the amount negative stuff you write for her. McCrory/08

Re: McCrory/Beverly not tied; Perdue leads

The amount of money is not the point; they all get money...again, the point is that spineless Pat is pretending to run a clean campaign. Those horrribly negative RGA ads are his, and he should own up to them. How on earth could you justify supporting the ineffective, argumentative, inexperienced (see Charlotte City Council) man who goes on FoxLive and says "Palin is hotter in person"? Morally and ethically bankrupt on top of having no backbone. Speaking of lies: did you catch McCrory's in his debate? He "can't legally pull RGA ads"...morally, ethically without scruples and not even a real politician according to those who work with him!

Re: McCrory/Beverly not tied; Perdue leads

Do you think that the Alliance for North Carolina and the DGA haven't spent just as much money attacking McCrory? Take off the blinders. You're fighting for a candidate who has been shown to be corrupt twice during this campaign. The News and Observer asked her if she would stop putting top fundraiser on the Board of Transportation and she flat out told them no. She would not do that unless the taxpayers paid for her next campaign. How on earth do you justify supporting such a corrupt politician?

Re: McCrory/Beverly not tied; Perdue leads

Yes, McCrory will be change...to Bush. Great, how comforting! He is a Bush puppet, and you only have to see his performance at the RNC to know this.
Why do you keep using Easley's trip? We are talking about McCrory's trip to Paris (was Pat's wife there on business with him)? Give us a break.
Please refer to the 4 million dollars RGA has spent on negative ads against Perdue. Could anyone actually believe McCrory doesn't endorse those ads? What planet are you from? It's even more insidious that McCrory is the only candidate to pretend to be clean and let others do all the dirty work. Is that the kind of leadership he talks about in his "positive" ads...you know, the ones to counterbalance the negative ones that he doesn't know are running on TV; oh yeah, he lied in his debate and said he could not legally pull those off of the air?

Actions speak louder than words!

April 7, 2001 -- Charlotte Observer
Charlotte's arena push strains relations with legislators

Charlotte officials say they're under pressure from an NBA team itching to move if the city doesn't build a new area - and they need help from their state lawmakers.

But the city leaders' relationship with their delegation in Raleigh has become strained, and some lobbyists say its the worst they've seen in a decade.

"There's some fence-mending that needs to be done," said Rep. Connie Wilson, R-Mecklenburg.

In the course of their weekly breakfasts this past month, Charlotte-area lawmakers have repeatedly scolded city officials for being ill-prepared, vague and unfair to the voters in their proposals for a new arena.

Mayor Pat McCrory didn't seem quick to bring out the toolbox.

"I'm working on behalf of Charlotte taxpayers and Charlotte citizens," McCrory said. "On a lot of these issues we're dealing with, we've had public hearings in Charlotte and we don't need to repeat that in Raleigh. (The delegation) needs to respect the decisions of the Charlotte City Council."

McCrory said the delegation's geographic breakdown contributes to the strain. He says a majority of the delegation does not live in Charlotte.

Legislators "outside of Charlotte are having a greater percentage of influence and there might not be as much ownership of Charlotte issues," he said.

Mary Carnilia, a former Mecklenburg County lobbyist, said the city's relationship with the delegation is at one of the lowest points in the 12 years she has worked with the Legislature.

Problems began before the General Assembly convened in January. City officials planned to ask for an annual contribution to the arena, starting at $3.2 million and increasing each year. They justified the figure as equal to the amount of new income tax the state would collect if the Charlotte Hornets moved their practice court from South Carolina to the arena.

Several legislators, including two heads of the budget committees, shot down the idea as impossible amid a state budget crisis.

When McCrory presented the arena plan to the delegation in March, he pitched the $3.2 million subsidy anyway.

"The mayor knew when he came up here with a hare-brained idea to return the income tax to the city, he knew that wasn't going to fly," said Rep. Drew Saunders, D-Mecklenburg, chairman of the local delegation.

McCrory later irritated lawmakers with comments suggesting that he could go over their heads and get Senate leadership to push for the money.

Two weeks later, legislators said the city's proposed wording for the ballot question on the arena didn't adequately explain where the money would come from, even after legislators asked for as much detail as possible. The referendum language was revamped by the end of the day to meet the legislators' requests.

City leaders said any incompleteness in their plan is due, at least in part, to the missing $3.2 million and the considerable time pressures imposed by the Hornets' threats to leave town.

Carnilia said Charlotte leaders may not recognize how different the parameters are in Raleigh, where the delegation sells a proposal to 155 other legislators from the beaches to the mountains.

City officials "are coming up here from Charlotte, as Charlotte and that's all they're interested in. It's hard when (the delegation) is getting information from a group with that narrow of a focus," she said.

McCrory/Beverly tied @44%: AP Poll

Excerpts from AP article on most recent poll:

McCrory, the popular pro-business mayor of Charlotte, has kept the race close by focusing on his own "change" message - vowing to change what he calls a culture of corruption, incompetence and inaccessibility of Democratic-led state government in Raleigh. The changing demographics of the state may also be a factor. The state now has 9 million people, an increase of about 1 million since 2000.

"I think he's got a very progressive set of opinions on the development of infrastructure," said Bob St.John, an architect who moved to Charlotte from St. Louis six months ago, said of McCrory.

St.John, 54, said he can only remember one time in which he voted for a Republican in the past, but he's been turned off this year by what he calls Perdue's negative ads.

"I don't know what she wants to do as much as I know what she wants Pat McCrory not to do," he said.

Re: McCrory blasts Perdue over ads

McCrory's trip to Paris, unlike Easley's trips, was NOT paid by taxpayers. Unlike Perdue and Easley, has not lived and advanced their
his lifestyle on the backs of the taxpayers of NC.

Re: McCrory blasts Perdue over ads

The divisive movement is a product of the Perdue campaign. NC is a connected state, which Mccrory realizes and Perdue doesn't, and what is promised in Charlotte is certainly known in Eastern NC, Western NC, and likewise. We know and accept that everyone can't have everything at the same time. We have had enough of current administation closet politics with a smile for the taxpayer here and state funds being diverted for pet agendas elsewhere. Time to change.

Mccrory's record speaks for itself on ethics, sound leadership, and steady progress. If you were interviewing the two candidates to run a company you were invested in, who would you choose? Think the choice is clear. Mccrory.

Bev's travel records? Where are they?

Beverly attempted to make an issue of Mayor McCrory going with Jim Hunt to Paris for the opening of a new flight between NC and Europe. Easley and his wife have also gotten well deserved criticism for their extravagant travels. Why hasn't Beverly come forward with her travel records over the last 8 years? Have the N&O or the Observer researched these thru her office or the Commerce Dept? Are you planning to share these records AFTER the election? Are there trips or wasted state expenses that she is hiding from us?

Fess up Beverly!

Bev Perdue Writes off Charlotte

As stated in the Charlotte Observer, and Democrat Operative Tom Jensen reports: "...There was no inherent anti-Charlotte bias with voters outside the state of Mecklenburg, it seems, the Perdue campaign is trying to create one"

Padering Perdue at work

So let me get this straight - Bev will fight for money for Charlotte and its roads while reforming the scandals on DOT, save the military bases, and, reform the health care system all while jumping tall buildings in a single bound.

Please.

It is clear that Bev Perdue will say anything to pander to whomever is in the current audience. All breath and bluster - no plan. Unless you count her getting Andy to whistle for her like he did for Mr. Easley in 2004.

She is dangerously divisive and two-faced.

Re: McCrory blasts Perdue over ads

Perdue is the one that made the commercial therefore she is the one dividing the state. She has caused the friction not McCrory.
