McCrory 49, Perdue 41, Munger 5

Pat McCrory has a wider lead in a new poll.

According to a recent poll by Survey USA, the Republican gubernatorial candidate had 49 percent, Democrat Beverly Perdue had 41 percent and Libertarian Mike Munger had five percent.

Five percent were undecided.

"Compared to an identical SurveyUSA poll released four weeks ago, McCrory is up 5 points and is in the lead for the first time; Perdue is down 6 points and trails for the first time," the pollsters write.

The survey of 671 likely voters was conducted between Sept. 6 and Sept. 8. The margin of error is plus or minus 3.9 percentage points.

Daily Kos poll similar to Survey USA

Sorry, forgot to include a link to the Daily Kos posting explaining their NC poll. http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/9/11/14030/7529/890/595082

Re: McCrory 49, Perdue 41, Munger 5

This polls tracks very closely to a poll commissioned by the left-leaning Daily Kos. The Research 2000 poll was conducted September 8th to 10th, interviewing 600 likely voters. The margin of error was +/- 4 pts. In this poll, McCrory had a 5 pt lead. McCrory 47%, Perdue 42%.

Perdue cannot lead NC

My bad. Perdue is still up by one point in a poll (after losing a significant lead).

However, her actions in Charlotte demonstrate that outside of prepared soundbites that she has repeated 100s of times, she cannot think on her feet. Tell me another leader that has publicly told their citizens to do the following during difficult times? While she may have a Ph.D, she has no common sense. Her lack of leaderhship skills is the REAL danger to North Carolina. SEE BELOW

During a Friday interview on WBT Radio in Charlotte, Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue advised motorists to get out and “get our gas tanks as full as they’ll let us do it during in the next 24 or 48 hours” due to Hurricane Ike. When questioned by host Al Gardner if this would create a panic, Perdue flip-flopped and said people should not overact and “there is no need for anybody to rush right out.”

Below is a partial transcript from Charlotte’s Morning News on WBT Radio, 8/12/08:

Beverly Perdue: “… this is a temporary price gouge, because that’s what it is, folks trying to get the most money they can get out of the limited capacity.”

Al Gardner: “You bet… just 30 seconds left. Who should do what about that?”

Beverly Perdue: “I think we all need to get out and get our, uh, get our gas tanks as full as they’ll let us do it during in the next 24 or 48 hours. And then we continue to watch what happens in the Gulf. Then, then the whole question becomes on Sunday to assess the damage. And from there we know what we have to do; I mean the country has this, we all know this, uh supply, this emergency supply that they can let go and this would be a time that the president and the Congress should have to authorize us using…”

Al Gardner: “But very quickly, Lt. Governor Perdue, if we’re urging everybody to go out and fill their tank right now in the next 24 hours wouldn’t that by definition create a panic?

Beverly Perdue: “Oh, oh I don’t mean that at all, and I didn’t mean to imply that. What I would do is to be very cautious about it not to overreact – if you need gas get some, but there is no need for anybody to rush right out because this is not going to be long term. Uh, the country has this supply that they’ve kept in waiting for this so I, uh, the truckers here, the folks who are on the road, find gas available, but what I was trying to say is don’t be concerned that you’re not going to be able to find it somewhere. It’s that there is still is a supply in this country; it’s not like last night while we were asleep somebody sucked all the oil out of the tanks all over the country. But it has been raised a buck and it’s really hard.”

In sharp contrast, Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory demonstrated responsible leadership in an official statement yesterday saying, “Due to the reduced flow of gas supplies out of the Gulf Coast, the City of Charlotte has implemented a conservation plan for the city fleet of vehicles to curtail the use of non-essential vehicles this weekend. I encourage all citizens to also implement a fuel conservation plan to conserve fuel over the weekend and remain calm until the full impact of Hurricane Ike on the nation’s gas supply can be determined.”

The following is a statement from Mayor Pat McCrory :

“During times of crisis, leaders need to be very careful not to create a panic. It was grossly irresponsible for the lieutenant governor to advise motorists to rush out and fill their gas tanks and drive prices up and then cause confusion by quickly contradicting herself. This is not a sign of responsible leadership, especially during a crisis.”

Re: McCrory leads for Governor-regardless of pol

That is, of course, not factually true. But, don't let lying get in the way of making political spin. There is another poll, from a much more trusted polling outfit with a history of polling well in NC, juuuuuuuuust down the page. Perdue continues to lead in that poll.

Funny how Perdue caused a fuel panic in Wilmington and Fayetteville after talking on Charlotte radio. Wow, that is some lie. Keep it up, God is watching.

McCrory leads for Governor-regardless of pol

You are correct that most polls show Mayor McCrory up by 3-5 points. However, recall that only a month ago when Perdue started the negative ads, she was UP by about 9 points. Whether it is a 3 or 8 point lead for Mayor McCrory, she has lost her long time lead as she is losing moderate democrats and independents. She has been exposed for who she really is and voters have grown tired of her flip flops as well as her examples of poor leadership (as an example, just on Friday, she helped create a fuel panic after talking on Charlotte radio - and then tried to wiggle out of it).

Re: McCrory 49, Perdue 41, Munger 5

No surprise here. The Mayor is BY FAR the better candidate and the right person to lead this state. "Flip flop Bev" is just a bunch of talking points with no record or substance to back them.

Re: McCrory 49, Perdue 41, Munger 5

Identical? Look at the poll, use your eyes, and do some actual reporting. This is the exact same poll that had McCain up by 20, even though every other poll has him up by 3-5 points. Why? Because this poll had more Republicans than Democrats. Take a gander at the state board of elections and see what is wrong with that.

And why are you reporting on this as if it is news when the poll was released a week ago?

Re: McCrory 49, Perdue 41, Munger 5

McCrory is certainly the better choice in THIS election!

Hope he will call Michael Munger to serve also...

McCrory has WON Mayor of Charlotte SEVEN TIMES, always with at least 56-76% of the VOTEs!!! He's a GREAT alternative to combat what NC has been oppressed with...AND we NEED TO KEEP the republican AUDITOR, Les Merritt who is finally doing a job for earned pay!

Re: McCrory 49, Perdue 41, Munger 5

I am a Democrat from the Coastal Plains section of our state. After the recent overturn of the Governor's veto on large boats terrorizing the public highways, I am beginning to think we need more than a "puddin' or dumplin' or sweetie" to take on Markie Marc and Smokin' Joe, et al.

I am not surprised that McCrory is polling well in spite of the "Queen City jinx." At this point I don't know but he may well be the best choice.

Re: NC Democratic leaders don't trust FlipFlop Perdue

WoW, and THAT coming from the mouth of an old line NC democrat...

Wonder what he thinks of Jim Hunt and Mike Easely?

Bev Perdue IS 'MORE CORRUPTION WITHOUT INTERRUPTION!'

Re: NC Democratic leaders don't trust FlipFlop Perdue

The former speaker speaks from first hand experience. With all the problems facing North Carolina, I don't understand why the media doesn't expose Beverly Perdue's flip flops and poor record. We need serious leadership to improve education, economy, healthcare and fight crime. We don't need "status quo" leadership. We need leadership that will focus on solutions not beating on the oppostion with negative misleading ads. Perdue now in panic mode continues to run negative ads. People are starting to realize that negative ads are questionably. Let's elect a governor that will listen and work for all of North Carolina. Pat McCrory will do that and more.

NC Democratic leaders don't trust FlipFlop Perdue

Perhaps the following explains one of the reasons that Ms Flip Flop is in free fall in the polls in NC. I find it curious that the N&O does not report information that North Carolina's voters, particularly your democratic brethren, deserve to know about Beverly!

Former NC House Speaker Joe Maveretic, a Democrat, had some plain talk about Lt. Governor Perdue while on the radio in Greenville, NC recently. See link below. Some of what he said about her includes:
- "I think that her entire political career has been based on flip-flops. Bev Perdue, in my personal opinion, is a person whose word you cannot trust."
- Her negative campaign reflects the character of the candidate (Perdue)
- She used a surrogate to destroy Moore during the primary and recently the accusations were found to be untrue
