McCrory 34, Smith 25

Pat McCrory and Fred Smith are well out in front in the race for the Republican nomination for governor, according to the latest results from Public Policy Polling.

McCrory, the mayor of Charlotte, was the choice of 34 percent of likely Republican primary voters in the latest survey by PPP. Smith, a state senator from Clayton, was the choice of 25 percent.

PPP surveyed 530 likely Republican primary voters on April 12-13. The margin of error was plus or minus 4.3 percentage points. PPP said other factors, such as refusal to be interviewed and weighting, could introduce additional error.

Bill Graham, a Salisbury attorney, was the choice of 6 percent. Bob Orr, a former state Supreme Court justice, was the choice of 5 percent.

29 percent said they were undecided.

More than half of those surveyed - 52 percent - said they might still change their mind.
