McCain to visit Wilmington Monday

Republican presidential candidate John McCain makes his first post-primary trip to North Carolina Monday when he holds a town hall meeting in Wilmington.

McCain will speak at Cape Fear Community College's Schwartz Center. Doors open at noon, Jim Morrill reports.

It will be McCain's first public appearance in the state since May and follows by a week a visit to Greenville by his running mate Sarah Palin.

McCain's wife, Cindy, will be the grand marshall of the Bank of America 600 tomorrow in Concord.

"John McCain is excited about bringing his Country First message to the Tar Heel state on Monday," said spokesman Mario Diaz. "Hardworking families in North Carolina are supporting John McCain and pushing him to victory in November because he has a plan to get our economy back on track by keeping our taxes low and controlling government spending."

McCain's opponent, Democrat Barack Obama, has made three visits to North Carolina in the last two weeks. Polls show a tight race in the state.

Tickets for Monday's event are available at the Wilmington Victory Office starting at noon Saturday.

How about: "If you vote McCain/Palin, buy a can of catfood."

You'll need it.

Re: McCain to drill Wilmington Monday

I would not worry too much about the drilling proposals. North Carolina's love for inshore trawling does much more environmental damage than "proposed" drilling. Our love of inshore trawling has been doing damage for years. Let's not be afraid of what "might happen" when it "is happening" everyday right now.

As the fisherman (with one hook) say, "If you want a North Carolina trout, buy a can of catfood."

Re: McCain to drill Wilmington Monday

Drill there. Drill now.

This visit is Exxon approved.

Here's hoping there's a Sarah Palin wardrobe malfunction, because God knows I turn the sound off when she speaks.

Welcome to NC McCain/Palin. Please leave a trail of lobbyists so Liddy Dole can find her way home.

Re: McCain to visit Wilmington Monday

While I will say here that both Presidential candidates are getting ridiculous with easy to disprove ads, Bev Perdue has gone overboard with two of her recent ads.

I have not drunk the kool-aid because I have seen what Democratic policies have cost us in NC besides money, it has cost us people's lives. And instead of focusing on bringing reform and change to preserve human life, Perdue is telling us not to vote for Pat McCrory over possible garbage importation. Why would we do that when we cannot find enough space for our own garbage. Perdue has officially lost this election. Maybe Perdue thinks garbage is more important than human lives lost under her as the healthcare czar.

I actually heard Vernon Malone from not more than three feet away say only he and his colleagues are allowed to represent the people because they have done things. yea, they have created policies that have cost us human lives. It took a federal judge to correct the General Assembly after they gave the Secretary of DHHS singular power to determine the readiness of the New central regional Hospital.

The voters need to take a stand and tell these people that we do not need to lose ONE additonal life. Enough is Enough. Yes, we need CHANGE in NORTH CAROLINA

Re: McCain to visit Wilmington Monday

John Cheney McBush is not welcome in our state. He can take his anger, stupidity and hate somewhere else. We are now a people of knowledge, caring and vision that have grown beyond the blind following of the likes of Jesse Helms and George Wallace. The number of pathetically small-minded losers that still follow these merchants of hate are growing less and less as the days go on. Rejoice in the Victory! The Day of Liberation is at Hand!!

Re: McCain to visit Wilmington Monday

I feel that as each day passes the McCain and Palin rhetoric becomes more fascist and unpatriotic.

Re: McCain to visit Wilmington Monday
