McCain ad to air in North Carolina

John McCain is now advertising in North Carolina.

The presumptive Republican presidential nominee's first ad focuses on his time as a prisoner of war of the Vietnamese in the 1960s.

"It was a time of uncertainty, hope and change. The 'Summer Of Love,'" the narrator says over images of hippies marching. "Half a world away, another kind of love — of country."

Like Barack Obama's early ads in the state, it focuses on McCain's biography, introducing him as a war hero who worked on "campaign reform, military reform, spending reform" and took on presidents.

It also takes a dig at rival Obama's campaign theme of "hope" and his oratory.

"John McCain doesn't always tell us what we 'hope' to hear," the narrator says. "Beautiful words cannot make our lives better."

As noted elsewhere, the ad ends with a line first used in a British campaign: "Don't 'hope' for a better life. Vote for one."

Update: The ad was part of a national cable television buy and was not aired specifically on North Carolina stations.

You wouldn't be complaining, would you?

Re: McCain ad to air in North Carolina

Wow...Democrats make me sick...always complaining about something...

Re: McCain ad to air in North Carolina

The Summer Of Love turned into the Winter Of Discontent when McCain returned home to a wife who had become crippled and overweight from injuries she had sustained in a horrible accident.

Being imprisoned and tortured was bad enough, but to have to take care of someone like that and be seen in public with her? That's just too much to ask, I guess.

Re: McCain ad to air in North Carolina

Just in the last few days the Dome has had posts glorifying Jesse Helms ad nauseum, attempting to poke holes in an anti Dole ad, highlighting endorsements of McCain's economic plan, and now 2 posts concerning McCain's new ad. The only play Democratic candidates have gotten recently are neutral articles concerning Hagan's comments on Helms's death and Obama's "symbolism" and plane troubles.
Your coverage isn't even close to being balanced.
Also McCain's cartoon picture is thoughtful and composed while Obama's is that of a grinning Black man with exaggerated features. Borderline disgusting.
