Marshall: Senate run would take $15m

Secretary of State Elaine Marshall says it would take serious cash, $15 million or so, to mount a serious challenge to U.S. Sen. Richard Burr next year.

Marshall, a Democrat, told Hotline on Call, a National Journal blog that she is planning a second trip to Washington to meet with party officials and donors to "test the waters"

"Let's face it, it's hard to run a campaign in North Carolina," Marshall said. "You can't do it without some outside money. So these are the things I'm assessing."

Marshall has joined a Facebook group urging her to run.

"Elaine Marshall has never shied away from a challenge," the page explains. "Join our group to urge Secretary Marshall to run for U. S. Senate."

Previously: Potential candidates for Senate 2010.

Filibuster proof?

Why give them a even stronger filibuster proof margin?

Now don't make me like Elaine Marshall Paul Terrell. Just bringing up Jesse "filibuster" Helms makes me want a crazy old lady representing us again.

Re: Marshall: Senate run would take $15m

We already have enough Democrats in the US Senate. They have done a poor job so far. Why give them a even stronger filibuster proof margin?

Re: Marshall: Senate run would take $15m, $30 if she spoke

gigglebox, that aint funny now. (ROFLMAO!) the poor 'crackkks done run out of criminals to run, I believe...course, I guess one of the Sleazelys could run, they might still be 'crackkk faves, right?

Re: Marshall: Senate run would take $15m, $30 if she spoke

I don't see how she's a lifelong civil servant.

Apparently you've never heard Grandma introduce someone. It takes a village my ass. It takes a lifetime...

Biden could teach her a thing or two about public speaking.

Can we just all vote now to keep her out of this before she spends money on that D.C. plane ticket?

Re: Marshall: Senate run would take $15m

I don't see how she's a lifelong civil servant. Her life began when she was born in 1945. She became a full-time government official, Secretary of State, in January 1997. She was a state senator (a Part-time job) for 5 years before that.

Just what we need in the Senate, another lifelong civil servant with no practical knowledge except fund raising.

Yes, we all know that about Burr. But what do you think of Elaine?

I don't support her because I know she can't fundraise.

Re: Marshall: Senate run would take $15m

Career politicians breed corruption and lies. Vote them out or they and their cronies die in office.

Option one....you win
Option two....you lose

While true Elaine, these aren't things you say in public.

I hear there's a Golden Girls marathon on WE. What say you we sit this one out?

And if Marshall actually joined a Facebook group, I'll POKE my eyes out.
