Mailer targets Hagan on gay marriage

GOP Hagan gay marriage mailerA mailer is criticizing Kay Hagan for her stance on gay marriage.

Sponsored by the N.C. Republican Party, the mailer features a photograph of two men's hands, with both wearing rings that say "guy" on them.

"With Kay Hagan and liberal judges, we're one step closer to legal gay marriages," the mailer says.

Inside, next to a picture of two figurines of men wearing black suits, it says that Hagan opposed an amendment to the state constitution that would have banned gay marriage.

It also repeats claims from another mailer about Hagan's ties to a group that promotes the rights of atheists, saying that Hagan has "a radical homosexual agenda for North Carolina."

The mailer does not mention the proposed Federal Marriage Amendment, which would add a similar ban to the U.S. Constitution.

Spokeswoman Colleen Flanagan said Hagan opposes both amendments.

"Kay believes that marriage is between a man and a woman, and this is fundamentally a state issue," she said. "She would not support a federal amendment defining marriage. Here in North Carolina, there is a law that she supports that says marriage is defined as a relationship between a man and a woman, and she sees no reason to change that."

I don't see what Dole's problem is...

That man has been married to Bob for years.

Re: Mailer targets Hagan on gay marriage

when a ticket is led by a man with a trophy second wife who chose a running mate who cannot teach values to her own teenage daughter why should we not be impressed that their follower wants to focus on peripheral issues in her own race?

Re: Stupid

Exactly, Real_Americans_Think. Check out the post from Pam Spaulding on "Pam's House Blend," http://www.pamshouseblend.com/showDiary.do;jsessionid=839F54322669CFC8E2E211DC47CF20AA?diaryId=7727, which carries a transcript of a conversation with a Dole spokesperson who actually admits that Hagan doesn't support gay marriage.

The hypocrisy from the right-wing shouldn't still be able to astonish, but it does.

Stupid

This is just stupid - i.e. both trying to smear someone with this issue and even thinking that gay marriage is some kind of threat to society. As a married heterosexual, I really can't understand how gay people getting married is a threat to my marriage or anyone elses. Divorce seems like the biggest threat to marriage. For a party that is "pro-family" is is really amazing that Repugs don't support stable families even if they happen to involve gay people. And the "pray the gay away" policy of Palin just doesn't work. However, even Hagan doesn't support gay marriage, which makes all of this moot for this particular election. Stupid repug dirty tricks, as usual.

Re: Mailer targets Hagan on gay marriage

Dang, but Liddy is going down in flames, ain't she? I guess this is what happens when your numbers are so far down that yellow bellied sidewinders start to look tall.

Re: Mailer targets Hagan on gay marriage

Evidently Liddy Dole is only interested in supporting straight Christians from Kansas...err NC. Everyone else isn't a "real American." Looks like the big tent just got a lot smaller.
