The N.C. lottery will unveil three new games Tuesday as part of a plan to improve sales.
Earlier this month, lottery officials estimated that the N.C. Education Lottery would be able to provide about $402 million for state education programs for the fiscal year ending in the middle of 2011. That is $40 million less than expected.
At the time, lottery officials said that new games and building a larger network of retailers could improve the lottery's fortunes.
The new games going on sale Tuesday are:
– Carolina Black, a scratch-off, instant win game with a top prize of $100,000.
The $5 game has $17.2 million in prizes that include six prizes of $100,000; 50 prizes between $1,000 and $10,000; more than 100,000 prizes between $50 and $500; and instant wins of $50 for anyone who scratches their way to a “Money Bag” symbol.
The game ticket is jet black with gold metallic ink lettering. At some retail locations, Carolina Black tickets will be sold from a specially designed dispenser.
– Valentine Doubler! is a $2 scratch-off ticket. The game contains $5 million in prizes, including six top prizes of $10,000
– Quick Bucks is a $1 game and contains $3.4 million in prizes, including eight prizes of $5,000 and more than 54,000 prizes ranging from $15 to $50.

Who is lottery director?
December 27, 2010 - 8:34pm — BourbonStYou're right, it does seem that lottery official(s) would be named, especially in light of recent departure of the director. Who's in charge of the operation these days? I guess the N&O is eagerly awaiting a big news story when it turns out that the lottery misses forecast proffered by unnamed "lottery officials".
please name names
