The House Republican leaders plan to hold a high dollar fund raiser on the day before the legislature convenes.
That will allow them to get under the rope before the ban on lobbyists giving to legislators goes into effect during legislative sessions. In doing so, the Republicans are following a long-held Democratic tradition.
House Speaker-designate Thom Tillis of Cornelius and Majority Leader Paul Stam of Apex have issued an invitation for a “VIP Reception” at The Cardinal Club in downtown Raleigh on Tuesday January 25. The event is to benefit the Republican House Majority Fund.
Cost of admission to the event ranges from $150 in advance or $250 at the door for individuals to $1,000 for co-sponsors(two tickets) $2,500 for sponsors(three tickets), $4,000 for co-hosts(four tickets).

same game just different team
January 14, 2011 - 11:55am — DonYeltonI feel so sorry for these out of touch leaders of the Republican Party. The power shift was to stop the corrupt crap in Raleigh and here they are playing the same game. They are too puffed up from victory to realize that like 1994 this victory will be short lived as they play the same games as the Democrats.
Actually the Democrat masters of spin are drooling now because these idiots are giving the dems the way to tie them all in a buncle. Hayes, Burr, McCory, Berger, Tillis, and the others that blindly huddle to enjoy the spoils of money. Actually I understand that some sitting legislators make money as consultants.
That is the real issue, the consultants that make their living off of the politicians. This whole game is about money. Who will be for open honest government and push for total transparency. We know that the Democrats will not look after the people, look at the budget deficit, students failing, no jobs, etc. Surely the Republicans will not follow the same step or will they? Time will tell.
It is different this time as the Tea Party, concerned citizens, Freedom Works, and great average Americans are watching.
And they wonder why we distrust them

Disgusting!
January 14, 2011 - 7:56am — inandohI cannot bear to think of these Republicans getting this money! This money has gone to the Democrats for so long there should be some type precedent law or statute of limitations or squatters' rights. We should be able to keep these flat-earth Republicans from getting this lobby money. They will get this money and probably go out and buy big screen tvs and rims for their old clunker cars!
Wouldn't the handing out of this lobby money be better accomplished by an independent commission. People who have never had money often times have a hard time dealing with their sudden wealth. Look at what happens to many of the lottery winners.
Don't let the Republicans get this money ! Do it for their own good! Save them from themselves by giving this money to the rightful owners - the Dems.
Thank you and bless you for seeing the light.
We wont get fooled Again(or will we?)
