Former Wake County Commissioner Lindy Brown has announced her candidacy for state House seat 38, saying she wants to be a champion for education.
“Education is the key that unlocks our economic future, so I will be a champion for our public schools system, our community colleges and our university system,” Brown said.
Brown, 55, is a clinical social worker. She wants to represent the newly created black-majority district that extends from Southeast Raleigh up Capital Boulevard to the Neuse River.
She was elected to the Wake County commissioners in 2006 and served as vice chair of the board. She lost her seat in 2010 to Republican Phil Matthews.
