Lejeune spruced up for Obama

A gym at Camp Lejeune got spruced up for President Obama.

Starting earlier this week, Marines began cleaning out piles of foam padding left in storage rooms at the Goettge Memorial Field House.

The rooms also got a fresh coat of paint.

The gym, which has a full-sized basketball court, seats 2,672 on pull-out risers, several rows of bleachers and folding chairs on the main floor, a Marine spokesman said.

It is typically used for military education.

Each of the major subordinate commands at the base received a quota of tickets to distribute to Marines, who began arriving at 9 a.m. for the noontime speech.

After the event, Obama spent about 45 minutes meeting privately with wounded veterans in some of the rooms near the gym before leaving.
