Lawson won't seek rematch with Price

B.J. Lawson, the physician/businessman who challenged Democratic U.S. Rep. David Price last year, has decided not to try again next year.

In a letter to supporters, Lawson thanked his backers, but said it was tough running in the Democartic-leaning 4th District, reports Rob Christensen.

“I’m a big fan of return on investment, however and while I was curious and passionate enough to run once, 37 percent is a long way from winning,” Lawson wrote. “Ultimately, I can’t justify spending my time and your money in North Carolina’s 4th District at this time.”

Lawson asked his backers to suppport “principled Republicans” across the the country and in North Carolina “so our next redistricting can empower voters to choose their politicians, instead of vice versa.”

Re: Price is too conservative for DOME posters

Maybe you should run a liberal against Price then. That'll teach him.

Price voted for Patriot Act and telecom immunity

On Price: "I have never seen the remotest hint at anything criminal or any untruths that have been attributed to him."

How about voting for immunity for telecom companies that illegally spied on Americans? How about voting for the Patriot Act? I think those are criminal, unconstitutional acts that should have gotten every "yes" vote sent to prison for violation of the Congressional oath.

There is an old saying if you cannot take the heat then stay out of the kitchen.

Here's another one for "Citizen Opinionated" here and "the Equalizer" on BlueNC... while true that Price represents you (sorta) and that other roommate you have in Chapel Hill after your parents sent you to a STATE SCHOOL, from which you occassionally claim to be married as well as making a half million in your small business...

What was I saying? Oh, yes... you and a town hall with real constituents, just really doesn't ring true. Know what I'm saying?

Re: Lawson won't seek rematch with Price

I do not understand why Rep. Price will not have a Town Meeting. He is in Washington most of the time, and when Congress goes on a recess then he says he will have a Town Meeting but it will be over the telephone. Who is he scared of? The people in his district? Why does he not have an open Town Meeting where the people he represents can speak to him face to face and express their views? I can understand if he was in Washington then needing to do this over the phone, but this is his opportunity to hear what his constituents have to say in person and he is hiding behind a telephone. There is an old saying if you cannot take the heat then stay out of the kitchen - maybe he feels more comfortable with the people in Washington than he does with the people he represents...

Re: Lawson gets he's nuttier than mainstream

I think that David Price is well intentioned, honest and polite. I also believe that he is a nut in the mold of McGovern, Gore and Carter.

You left out Goldwater. I mean if you truly want to make a point, include him.

I'm about to move to to Chapel Hill and volunteer. Is he anything like Ron Paul too? Because then, you'd have me.

I know Price is the most powerful Rep. we have in N.C.? Any other problems with him? He brings back too much tax money? Supports the military too much?

I mean give us something for the Hippies in Chapel Hill he represents to get really mad about.

Re: Lawson won't seek rematch with Price

Paul, what's really funny is you showing your face in this thread.

37 percent is a long way from winning

Isn't that more than twice what you got in your vote?

Some demonstrations of electoral politics aren't manufactured.

Re: Lawson won't seek rematch with Price

Gigglebox, why aren't you calling all of those hate Bush demonstrations mnaufactured events? And the recent Pro-healthcare demonstrations manufactured by MoveOn.org and ACORN? Oh, because you are a hypocrite and probably just making this stuff up?

It is sad how people like Gigglebox think his concerns are genuine and people who disagree with him are nuts. People on the left like Gigglebox are displaying their arrogance and contempt (hate) for the majority of Americans who disagree with him and them. 80% of Americans like their health care and many more see the failures and lies surrounding the stimulus, cash for clunkers, and the continuing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. A majority of the people at the Tea parties and other protests are not republicans by registration. They are the Unnafiliated, Liberterians and yes Democrats who are tired of losing our freedoms to Washington and Raleigh.

Re: Price will hold telephone town-hall meetings with real ppl!

That's a brilliant idea.

My Rep. has those often with 2,000 or more randomly invited constituents each time, and the beauty is they all really live here and Glaxo-Smith-Kline and Art Pope don't get to drop off a busload of 'concerned citizens' from Manufactured-Outrage-Land, the Angriest Place on Earth®, to interrupt the efforts of representing real constituent concerns.

Good thinking Rep. Price!

Rep. Price will hold only telephone town-hall meetings

Rep. Price is only going to hold telephone town-hall meetings. He probably does not want to end end up on YouTube as the other Representatives who are holding open public meetings, as I am sure there are a lot of upset vocal constituents (including myself) who are concerned about the wrong direction of health care reform.

Re: Price wins again

Will Mr. Price hold any townhall meetings over the recess? Or is he too chicken like Brad Miller who refuses to hold a public event during the recess.

I believe they both know your side of the 'debate.'

Re: Lawson won't seek rematch with Price

nojim,

Whooo. Wait a minute. Are you actually going to contend that Price has never told an "untruth"?

Re: Lawson won't seek rematch with Price

I AGREE...BJ LAWSON would do MUCH MUCH better this next time!!! Please reconsider! Maybe Mike Munger will do it!!! Email him!!!

Re: Lawson won't seek rematch with Price

I think term limits are a great idea. 4 year term for Reps., 8 for Sens. No more than 2 terms for each. Think of the election money that would be saved and they could actually spend more time doing the people's work rather than the party's work. But remember the empty promises of the Gingrich crowd and their Contract with America? Didn't take long to notice the hypocrisy in their intentions to limit terms. Only the people can do it. They need to demand it. The politicians would never go for it. Time for a constitutional amendment.

Please Rep. Price - retire

This is too bad - Rep. Price has been there too long - it is time for him to declare victory, and retire to spend more time with his family. But these politicians get in there and they don't know when it is time to leave (hello Senator Byrd) and the only way they leave is when they are 6 feet under. I am sure Price feels he is essential and he can do better than anyone else in his district, which is typically how politicians who have been there too long view themselves. There should be Term Limits for Congressman as there are for the President of the United States. The turnover is a good thing, and would provide more pluses than minuses for the country. But Congress will never let us enact Term Limits on them, so the comity continues.

Re: Lawson won't seek rematch with Price

What a cheap shot at Rep. Price -- I have never seen the remotest hint at anything criminal or any untruths that have been attributed to him.

Re: Lawson won't seek rematch with Price

I told a VERY Democratic friend continually about BJ Lawson all through election period, but he just wouldn't listen because of that "R." Price was a Dem, so he must be great for our needs, right?

Well, my friend voted early at Morehead Planetarium, walked out, and there was David Price himself. My friend asked about something like how Price voted for immunity for the telecoms or how Price voted for the Patriot Act or something, and Price gave him such a general not-actually-saying-anything "politician" answer that my friend said he only wished he'd met Price on the way in rather than the way out. He would have filled in the bubble for BJ Lawson once he realized how Price was.

If BJ ran this time, I know he'd do better. I hope he runs for Senate or something, because it is a crime to not have such a principled person representing us in North Carolina somewhere.

A State House run in the future?

Hopefully, he'll run against Ty Harrell for State House.

Re: Lawson won't seek rematch with Price

That is probably for the best since up to the day of election I could not even tell you who was running against Price, who I am not a supporter of - in fact in a heavily democratic ticket - price was one of very few Dems that did not get my vote! Why? I sat thru a speech by Mr. Price some years ago and had a difficult time counting how many untruths and half truths he spewed - no need for career criminals like him
