Just saying no to pot

Gov. Beverly Perdue is not in favor of legalizing the use of marijuana for medical purposes.

Perdue was asked about it Friday at a forum for nonprofits held in Raleigh, reports Rob Christensen. The questioner said medical marijuana could produce jobs, tax income, and provide relief to sick people.

“Right now,” Perdue said, “I don’t see any way I would support medical marijuana.

“Right now, every child I look at who’s had a problem getting off pot,” Perdue said, “I worry about things like that.”

Re: Just saying no to pot

The taxpayer spends billions to stop the flow of pot....to little avail. And the pot dealers make billions and deprive the government of the "sin" tax. And don't tell anybody but pot is pretty much available just about anywhere.

We've got alcohol and cigs. We got us a lottery. Your girlfriend can get an abortion. But it will take another 25-50 years to legalize pot. In the meantime we'll just have to sin where we can find it.

Re: Just saying no to pot

If you are traveling down a highway, who would you rather meet. Someone who has smoked a joint or someone who has been drinking? Personally, I would rather meet the pot smoker, first of all they probably will not even be on the road. They will be sitting on a couch somewhere listening to old albums. Second, if they are driving they will be going so slow you probably will not have much damage should they wreck. On the other hand, the drunk will be going 90 miles an hour in a 25 mph zone. I honestly fail to see what is so much more dangerous about pot than alcohol. The state is in the business of the more damaging.

Re: Just saying no to pot

It's just so hard to understand. I mean.....a woman can abort her unborn child.....but can't take a hit off a joint.

??????

Who voted for this person?

Legalize: Tax and regulate, Costly Prohibition has FAILED

Hey Gov, Looky here at what is being proposed out west:

Speaking at a landmark press conference today, California Assemblyman Tom Ammiano (D-San Francisco) introduced comprehensive legislation to tax and regulate the commercial production and sale of cannabis in a manner similar to alcohol.

“With the state in the midst of an historic economic crisis, the move towards regulating and taxing marijuana is simply common sense. This legislation would generate much needed revenue for the state, restrict access to only those over 21, end the environmental damage to our public lands from illicit crops, and improve public safety by redirecting law enforcement efforts to more serious crimes”, Assemblyman Ammiano said. “California has the opportunity to be the first state in the nation to enact a smart, responsible public policy for the control and regulation of marijuana.”

Re: Just saying no to pot

13 states now have medical marijuana programs. Perhaps the governor should spend some time researching and investigating before she opposes the idea. David Work, former head of the NC Board of Pharmacy in a letter to toe editior of the N and O yesterday says its time to "civilize" the use of this plant that has been used by mankind for 4,000 years.

President Obama has gone on record for 'states rights' for medical marijuana and has said: "Sure I inhaled, that was the point".

Bev, have you inhaled?

Re: Just saying no to pot

hey Bev, 'pot' is NONaddictive! No one has ever died from ingesting too much 'pot'.

Re: Just saying no to pot

Unless she is totally scripted, Beverly has no idea what she is talking about.

Re: Just saying no to pot

What an incomplete response. It's the typical thoughtless comment I'd expect from her.

Re: Just saying no to pot

Or Vague? Perhaps the Governor should spend some time with Cancer Patients whose only relief from the nausea induced chemo is cannabis. On a side note to the governor's statement. Who mentioned anything about legalizing it for kids?

Re: Just saying no to pot

Can Governor Perdue's statement be any less clear?
