Rep. Walter Jones of Farmville on Tuesday visited an Army corporal at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, after he was contacted by the soldier's father.
Jones made the visit after a national conservative group began running a web ad criticizing him for never having visited Afghanistan or Iraq as a member of the House Armed Service Committee.
Jones, a Republican, noted that his visit Tuesday was the 21st time that he had visited wounded warriors in the last 10 years.
"Today I had the honor and privilege to thank one of our country's finest for his service and sacrifice," Jones said in a statement. "I visit these hospitals as often as I can and I never cease to be astounded by the courage of these young service members.''
