Jones co-sponsors English-only bill

Walter JonesU.S. Rep. Walter Jones wants the federal government to only offer help in English.

The Farmville Republican is co-sponsoring a bill that would repeal an executive order requiring federal agencies to translate documents and provide interpreters for non-native speakers.

"It is important for people living in the United States to speak and understand English," he said in a Feb. 14 statement. "A common language is what makes a nation one."

Jones used identical language in a Dec. 14 statement on a separate bill that would allow employers to require workers only speak English at work.

The Washington Daily News reports that Beaufort County, which is in Jones' district, recently voted 4-3 along party lines to remove foreign-language options from all county phone systems. At least one commissioner applauded Jones' move.

Our homeland?

That's pretty darn rich. Looks like you might have missed just a little bit of history on your way to establishing your white-boy supremacy.

The reduction of the North American Indian population from an estimated 12 million in 1500 to barely 237,000 in 1900 represents a "vast genocide . . . , the most sustained on record." By the end of the 19th century, writes David E. Stannard, a historian at the University of Hawaii, native Americans had undergone the "worst human holocaust the world had ever witnessed, roaring across two continents non-stop for four centuries and consuming the lives of countless tens of millions of people."

"There can be no more monumental example of sustained genocide—certainly none involving a 'race' of people as broad and complex as this—anywhere in the annals of human history."

"Force assimilation." Is that what we should do in the U.S. now? Force everyone to become like us?

Last time I checked, we weren't the greatest role models around.

Re: Jones co-sponsors English-only bill

Go Walter go. It's high time we force assimilation rather then accomodation when the rest of the world shows up in our homeland.

Re: Jones co-sponsors English-only bill

I don't agree, simply because there is no official language of the United States.

Re: What Would Jesus Do?

Jones always talks about how he only answers to Jesus, not his constituents. I sure hope Jesus speaks English, not Hebrew, or Walter won't listen. Keep up the spin pretty boy.

Re: Jones co-sponsors English-only bill

I hope Rep. Jones never goes to the official website for the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, his head might explode.

Deaf

It's a good thing no one in America is deaf.

American Sign Language isn't English and anyone who "speaks" it should be thrown under the bus along with all the other terrorists who refuse to adopt God's chosen language.
