Is the end in sight? Senate Rules Chairman Tom Apodaca can see the light at the end of the tunnel for this tumultuous legislative session.
Apodaca told senators Thursday that House and Senate teams will work through the weekend negotiating the $20.6 billion state budget and taxes, hoping to resolve both major bills by "the first of next week."
He said the Senate expects to wrap up most of its work next week and "maybe go home next weekend."
"Maybe we can all work together to get there," he said.
Many major issues still remain outstanding this session. On the Senate's plate: a much-debated measure to require voters to show identification at the polls.
