Incumbents lose

A handful of incumbents didn't survive their legislative primaries.

Here's a look at who won't be around next session, according to unofficial and incomplete results.

Rep. Ronnie Sutton: The Robeson County Democrat and chairman of one of the chamber's important judiciary committees appeared to lose a squeaker to challenger Charles Graham.

Rep. Earl Jones: The Greensboro Democrat who was a champion for legalizing video poker.

Rep. Bruce Goforth: The Asheville Democrat held a key seats on the House's budget writing committee.

Rep. Nick Mackey: The Charlotte Democrat made enemies among his county's delegation who believed Mackey was working to unseat them. He also had his law license suspended the day before the election.

Rep. Wil Neumann: The Gaston County Republican appeared to lose his bid to win the Republican primary for the District 43 Senate seat held by departing Democratic Sen. David Hoyle.

Rep. Pearl Burris-Floyd

CORRECTION: A previous version of this post misstated the apparent outcome of the Republican primary between Burris-Floyd a Dallas Republican and primary challenger Kelly Hastings. Burris-Floyd appeared to lose the contest.
