Howard Coble rushed to hospital for hernia surgery

U.S. Rep. Howard Coble was taken to a Washington, D.C., hospital with severe stomach pains today and was scheduled for immediate hernia surgery.

Coble, a Republican from Greensboro, planned to speak today at a lunch meeting known as the Tar Heel Circle, but had to cancel because of the pain, his chief of staff Ed McDonald said.

McDonald said that Coble, who's 82, is expected to spend at least one night in the hospital.
