How open will the next governor be with the press?
After this week's limited press conference with Gov. Mike Easley, the question has come up anew in the gubernatorial run. Here's a rough sketch, based on Dome's interactions, from most to least open:
Bob Orr: From weekly breakfasts to a daily blog, he's so open he's Mr. Cellophane.
Fred Smith: He'll stay late at a barbecue to chat and usually returns calls personally.
Pat McCrory: It sometimes takes a while, but he'll talk with you one-on-one.
Bill Graham: A spokesman usually handles press inquiries, but he'll call or chat directly sometimes.
Richard Moore: He holds open press conferences, but campaign staff return most calls.
Beverly Perdue: A spokesman handles press inquiries, and she rarely gives interviews.
Rankings are subjective and based on their gubernatorial campaigns.
