The Paul Coble campaign kicked off today’s round by sending out a news release titled, “George Holding: Up to His Eyeballs in Debt!”
The debt refers to the nearly $250,000 in debt his campaign committee has incurred. Is he up to his eyeballs? Holding has raised more than $700,000 on that side of the ledger. (Coble’s campaign has raised about $200,000 but is only about $1,500 in debt.)
Coble’s point about the debt is that Holding has been attacking him for supposedly not balancing the budget as a Wake County commissioner.
Holding’s campaign returned fire with this observation: “Sometimes politics is just plain silly and at other times it nosedives straight into a ditch.”
Holding says Coble ran into the ditch in a news release Monday when he portrayed Holding as a Washington insider because he worked in D.C. and has owned a Capitol Hill condo for 13 years. Holding retorts that he worked in Washington alright – for Sen. Jessie Helms, Coble’s uncle. (Holding didn’t explain why he still has a condo there.)
Holding also sniffs that Coble “attacked members of my family” when he called them a special interest group because they formed a super PAC that has raised half a million dollars for Holding.
Stay, as they say, tuned.
