A few times throughout former Gov. Mike Easley's testimony, he seems to have taken pains to remind the State Board of Elections that they are, in fact, talking to a governor.
There was the tee-off, before chairman Larry Leake had a chance to burrow in with a tough question: "Since I had the privilege of appointing some of you, I wanted to say I appreciate your service."
Easley explained he was too busy trying to get a lottery passed to worry about invoices: "I'm trying to get a lottery passed which passed the end of August...And I'm working on that last vote. If I don't get that passed, I don't have pre-K, I don't have class size reduction and I don't have any of those things we need," Easley said.
Then there was his explanation as to why he didn't triple check with supporter McQueen Campbell about whether flights were paid for: Easley said he was busy trying to fulfill his promises to voters.

October 29, 2009 - 5:19am — meltedDear Mr. Sleasy. Apparently you cannot read the papers - you are no longer a governor. And no matter how the elections board hearings and the federal hearings turn out you are still a felon and will have to live with that for the rest of your life. On your judgement day you will go before the "ONE" who will not accept lies and excuses.
Republicans implode!

You can't. I'm no more a member than you ever have been.

October 28, 2009 - 6:10pm — j1c2kpGiggle, I don't give a rip what party a crook belongs to, there are plenty in both parties to go around. I'm just sick of political corruption. And I cannot tolerate GWB or Dick. Everytime they would come on TV, I would change the channel. A crook is a crook. When they stand before their maker I don't think they will be asked which political party they belonged to.

Listen, I'm no fan of that guy I couldn't pick out of a lineup and hope he rots in a cell with Jim Black, but you're all hypocritical hacks if you think this is a Party thing and don't wish the same on GWB and his boss Dick.

Because Easley was SOOOO busy

This guy was famous for only working Tuesday - Thursday and spending Friday - Monday in Southport. He's famous for playing golf - Alone. Known to spend hours hiding in his basement woodworking.
He did so little the RGA ran an ad against him in 2004 that pointed out over 350 of the days on his public calendar were blank.
He was REALLY busy.
Easley is a master spin-miester and a dishonest crook. He's not a guy that is out working hard to serve the people he elected just himself.
