Happy Domesday 2009!

Dome CakeIt's the Dome blog's second birthday!

As a feature in the N&O, Under the Dome debuted Sept. 3, 1934, but it "went electric" on April 16, 2007.

Since then, we've posted more than 9,000 times.

A few highlights from the past year:

* Adding new features. We've created a Mobile Dome for use on your Blackberry or iPhone, added an Ask Dome feature for your difficult questions, ran the Claims Dept. fact check and started the Dome Memo, a weekly roundup of the news.

* Covering the 2008 elections. We covered 11 statewide races, including open seats for governor, senator, lieutenant governor and treasurer. We ran into the thick of the momentous Clinton-Obama primary and the emergence of a new swing state.

* The Legion of Dome. We hosted a crew of capable interns and welcomed the political team of the Charlotte Observer. We bid goodbye to two colleagues. The head legionnaire moved to Washington.

In all, it's been a great year, and we look forward to many more!

Happy Domesday 2009!

Moderating us on this blog should be good preparation should you decide to become a kindergarten teacher. I hope the kindergarteners do not take offense.

Happy Domesday, you keep me informed about what's really going on in the state.

Re: Happy Domesday 2009!

Happy birthday but I'm disappointed that you never adopted the moniker I coined some while ago: "The Dome Gnome".

Re: Happy Domesday 2009!

Happy Domesday to you. I still check in -- all the way from the desert -- to see what's going on there. Congrats to all on another great year.
