Kay Hagan's campaign says she has worked on immigration.
In an e-mail to Dome, a spokesman for the Democratic Senate candidate noted three legislative efforts that tackled the issue of illegal immigration in the past two years.
* In 2006, Hagan voted for an omnibus technical corrections bill that included a provision that would require all applicants for a driver's license present proof they are in the state legally. (The amended bill passed the Senate 41-6.)
* In 2007, Hagan voted for an omnibus studies bill that included a study of the impact of illegal immigrants on the state's health care and criminal justice systems and economy. (The bill passed the state Senate 49-0.)
* The 2007-08 budget, which Hagan voted for and helped craft, included $750,000 to train sheriffs' offices on illegal immigration.
In addition, as previously noted, Hagan cosponsored a 2003 bill that never made it out of committee that would have led to a study on illegal immigration.
