Re: Hagan's 'Belief' ad on Dole's vulgar attack

Yet you don't question why anyone would associate with a group that has a "christian" agenda. As with you, I would not go out of my way to accept money from a group (christians) that WOULD SEEK TO limit the religious freedoms of a majority of North Carolinians. Christians have no lock on morality; most atheists I know are MORE moral and upright citizens than so-called christians.

Re: Hagan's 'Belief' ad on Dole

Hagan sounded very angry in this ad, and rather than her stating that she taught Sunday School to prove she was a Christian, I would have like to hear her recognize Christ as Lord. I still do not recall Dole ever saying that Hagan was "godless" simply that she accepted funds from an organization that was. That is a very relevant issue to be raised if you are trying to reach Christians in NC.
The whole "not bearing false witness" bit at the end of this ad was however, just as accusatory. I will say I did not agree with the way Dole brought the subject to light but people are blowing this thing up way bigger than it needs to be. I think both sides really just need to calm things down before they get really crazy. Neither Dole or Hagan is godless and were never accused of being such. Hagan was right they need to focus on other issues but this ad did not tell me she was doing that.

Re: Hagan's 'Belief' ad on Dole

First of all, I don't think you understand what religious freedom means. It means being able to practice your religion without government keeping you from doing so, NOT keeping his name on the dollar bill and pledge of allegiance. And I'm certainly not for taking God's name out of the pledge of allegiance or anything like that. I just think you should know what religious freedom really means if your going to cite that in your arguement.

Second. You can call "liberals" emotional, but the ad very clearly says, "And what does Kay Hagan promise in return?" then it cuts to the voice over with the person saying "there is no God!". Terrible ad, and anybody will tell you that it's misleading at best. I genuinely hope that the ad alone sinks Elizabeth Dole. Maybe then she can sell her house and leave the state. God knows she really doesn't give a flip about our state.

There's a reason this ad got a lot of national attention.....

Forthright?

"Dole's campaign has been more than forthright with identifying the voice at the end of the video...you overly emotional liberals..."

So, are they sending out a mailer or robocalling the hundreds of thousands of North Carolinians who watched the ad showing Kay's face while a female voice says, "There is no God"? That was no accident, it was intentional, and ranks right up there with using subliminal images to sell popcorn and soda in a movie theater.

Not only was this ad an outrageous attack against Kay Hagan, it was blatant attempt to fool the general public into believing something that never happened. Which really comes as no surprise, as Liddy Dole has perfected the art of lying to the people of North Carolina.

Re: Hagan is a thoughtful public servant

Hagen IS a thoughtful public servant, and that is why I voted for her. Her response to Doles tasteless, vile ad is absolutely on the mark. Politics and religion shouldn't be mixed. This is STILL a free country, where free speech is enshrined in our constitution and the Godless PAC has every right to exist and fight against the very religious racism that Dole is dishing up. Can't WAIT to see Hagen in Washington.

Hagan is a thoughtful public servant

You wanna know what she was thinking by attending a fundraiser? I think she was thinking the same thing every other candidate running for office was thinking when each of them went to Boston or New York to raise money.

I think she was assuming that these folks, who are organized to fight discrimination on the basis of religious beliefs, have every right to do so, and that as a public servant she has an obligation to respect the legitimate, lawful concerns of all people -- not just those whom she is likely to see in church.

Is that too hard for you to grasp, or were ya just not thinking?

What was Hagan thinking?

Going to Boston to raise money from a bunch of lunatics in the first place...

Re: Hagan's 'Belief' ad on Dole

In addition...

"Hagan said she had never heard of the Godless Americans PAC until Dole's campaign raised the issue prior to the event. The fundraiser had a number of other hosts."

The Dole campaign raised concerns three weeks prior...then Hagan quickly erased all paper trail of her intentions to attend the event in Boston...

She is desperate for the money...$18 million from the DSCC...money from MoveOn...and now Godless American PAC...NORTH CAROLINA IS NOT FOR SALE...

Re: Hagan's 'Belief' ad on Dole

Dole's campaign has been more than forthright with identifying the voice at the end of the video...you overly emotional liberals...

"Dole campaign spokesman Dan McLagan said the end of the ad was not misleading, arguing the woman's voice is clearly not the Democratic lawmaker. McLagan said the ad does not question Hagan's faith, only why she would associate with a group with an atheist agenda.
"The concern is that she's going to support judges that have the same world view that she's taking money from - or oppose judges who have the opposite" world view, McLagan said."

That is from yesterday...

If people actually could think for themselves instead of letting emotion get in the the way of their political thinking, then they would seriously question why Hagan would travel to Boston to accept money from this group of people...Seriously...

I would not go out of my way to accept money from a group that might limit the religious freedoms of a majority of North Carolinians...yes taking "Under God" out is stepping on my religious freedom...

Re: Hagan's 'Belief' ad on Dole

1. Just because the Dole Campaign says that she shouldnt go before she actually does hardly excuses this classless AD on the part of the Dole Campaign. Just as she started to dip in the polls she inserts religion into the argument in order to win over and reenergize her base. Pathetic.

2. Dole's campaign is obviously misleading in this ad, especially when you consider the fact that the voice over is intended to sound like Hagan herself. Is that justified, just because the Dole campaign told her not to go to this event awhile back? I'm sorry, but that makes absolutely no sense to me. We know Hagan didn't make those comments, but to the ignorant voter they might actually believe this crap.

3. Dole does not even deserve to hold that office for another day. She was elected back in 2002. I've been following NC and National politics very carefully and I can tell you with a straight-face that I've barely heard anything about Dole and what she has actually done for the state of NC. I think alot of people can agree with that. Even Jesse Helms was on the stump for NC on several occasions when he was in office. I don't like the guy, but he certainly represented the state on some level. More than I can say for Elizabeth Dole. She wasn't really from this state to begin with before she was elected to office in '02.

4. Back to the religion. I think it's disgusting that politicians use religion as a political tool in the campaign. That not only did Dole severely mislead people about Hagan with this pathetic ad, but she used God in doing so. That's extremely shameful in my opinion.

Go Hagan! Let's get some representation for the state of North Carolina for a change!

Hagan Heads to Boston for Fundraiser in the Home of Leading Anti-Religion Activists

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Tuesday, August 26, 2008

Salisbury, N.C. – On September 15th, Kay Hagan is heading to Boston, Massachusetts to attend a fundraiser for her Senate campaign. What may surprise mainstream North Carolinians is that the fundraiser will be in the home of leading anti religion activists Wendy Kaminer and her lawyer husband Woody Kaplan -- who is an advisor to the "Godless Americans Political Action Committee."

Kaminer is the author of Sleeping with Extra-Terrestrials, in which one reviewer said Kaminer is ". . . trying to save us from ‘the perils of piety’-the pestilence of organized religion and its encroachment on public life. Should we be surprised that Katha Pollitt, atheist-in-chief at The Nation and author of a book called Reasonable Creatures, has given Kaminer's book a gushing blurb?” (Norah Vincent, Op-Ed, “Unbelievable,” National Review, 11/22/99)."

Kaminer is also an advisory board member (Woody is the chairman) of The Secular Coalition for America which is "the national lobby for atheists, humanists, freethinkers and other nontheistic Americans with the unique mission of protecting their civil rights.” (Secular Coalition For America, Press Release, 1/16/08)

Kaminer's husband, Woody Kaplan, is also an advisor to the Godless Americans Political Action Committee which sees itself as a counter-force to religious groups in public policy debates.

"Kay Hagan is trying to run a campaign in North Carolina that casts her as a moderate but the money that's paying for it is coming from the left-wing fringe of political thought," said Dole Campaign Communications Director Dan McLagan. "You can tell a lot about a person by their friends and these are friends most North Carolinians would not be comfortable having over for dinner."

Hagan's campaign is being largely funded by labor unions intent on ending North Carolina's status as a right to work state, liberal trial lawyers and ultra left wing groups like MoveOn.org which is a deeply anti-military organization. Now Hagan has added anti-religion activists from Boston Massachusetts to the list.

"Kay Hagan does not represent the values of this state; she is a Trojan Horse for a long list of wacky left-wing outside groups bent on policies that would horrify most North Carolinians if they knew about it," McLagan said. "This latest revelation of support from anti-religion activists will not sit well with the 90% of state residents who identify with a specific religious faith."

Re: Hagan's 'Belief' ad on Dole

Blah Blah Blah...Kay you are really stretching this one...

On August 26, 2008, the Dole campaign (according to their website) issued a press statement criticizing you for attending this event.

Yet, you still flew up to Boston and accepted the money from them. Since you go to church and are a Sunday school teacher...you must be really desperate for this US Senate seat that you would put you own philosophical values on hold to accept a few checks.

We are not idiots in North Carolina Kay...
