Hagan 'outraged' over AIG bonuses

U.S. Sen. Kay Hagan is blasting bonuses at AIG.

The Greensboro Democrat said today in a statement that she shares "the public's outrage" over reports that the ailing financial insurer is paying employees $165 million in performance bonuses while receiving a federal bailout.

The company has defended itself by saying that they are contractually obligated to make the payments, a position the U.S. Treasury Department agreed with.

"I suppose it is no surprise that a company which engaged in such grossly reckless behavior that it required a $170 billion bailout would also willingly enter into a contract that requires it pay out 'performance bonuses' to its employees even when it is on the verge of bankruptcy," she said. "That is not good business sense."

Hagan cosponsored an amendment in February to limit the pay of CEOs of companies receiving federal bailout money.

Her statement followed similar remarks by President Obama Monday.

kay "obamabot" hagen. Outraged over 165mil bonus for aig. That is chicken feed money compared to the bailout, and the budget spending bill, and don't forget the 8000 earmarks. If she wants to here OUTRAGE she should talk to the people in her state. This senate, including hagen will spend this country into the dark ages without remorse. If obama wants it passed, hagen is sure to do her part. Wake-up North Carolina.

UNFIT for Service.

Re: Hagan 'outraged' over AIG bonuses

Excuse my previous post...the actual dollar amount is $19,050 from Bank of America...

Re: Hagan 'outraged' over AIG bonuses

I think it is funny that Hagan is so outraged at AIG. The Hagan campaign accepted over $23,000 in political contributions from Bank of America. A company that has accepted TARP money, similar to AIG, yet there is not outrage from her office about her acceptance of that money. I think Hagan should return that money to the taxpayers' or forgo $23,000 of her Senate salary.

Re: Hagan 'outraged' over AIG bonuses

Read the fine print?? She proved during the stimulus bill that reading the bills is not part of her job requirement.

Re: Hagan 'outraged' over AIG bonuses

tangoz knows...what do politicians know about business. they should keep their noses out of stuff they know very little about as demonstrated by their ineptitude. If she ran AIG the way Fannie and Freddie are being run WOW....She should read the fine PRINT

Re: Hagan 'outraged' over AIG bonuses

Hagan apparently doesn't believe in honoring contracts. She has proven this by supporting a weak President who has weak minded advisors around him.

Re: Hagan 'outraged' over AIG bonuses

"said... in a statement" sounds pretty lame.

Did she return campaign contributions or is this one of those "wink wink", "nod nod" types of "Outrage".
