At the start of session Tuesday, House Speaker Joe Hackney recognized a number of visitors in the chamber including North Carolina's newest millionaire Jeff Wilson, who claimed his Powerball jackpot today.
"All you who voted against the lottery hold your applause," Hackney said.

Not one of you morons purporting to address the least issue involving Joe Hackney is fit to wipe his feet.
This man is not only the best and brightest that the Democrats in NC have to offer in decades, but is also the living, breathing, functioning example for anyone else who cares that one may be intelligent and honest and principled and serve his people.
I will always be proud to back Joe Hackney. There is no one in the state who can match his record for scrupulous attention and ethical practice.
As a State House candidate for House 33 I find Hackney's comment both insulting and stupid. So Hackney proudly admits to voting for the lottery on a CORRUPT vote?
Perhaps they could comment on being constrained to be suckers in a game with horrible odds

NEW LEGISLATION NEEDED: Pass a law that would require all builders to certify that NO ILLEGAL labor was employed to build it!
He might want to reconsider that statement in light of what we were all promised the lottery would accomplish.
