Hackney requests Harrell investigation

House Speaker Joe Hackney Wednesday said he is asking for an ethics investigation of Rep. Ty Harrell, a second-term legislator from Raleigh, over his campaign finances.

"I am asking our Legislative Ethics Committee to examine and investigate whether campaign finance irregularities in the reports of Representative Ty Harrell amount to violations of the Legislative Ethics Act, or the criminal law, or both," Hackney said in a prepared statement issued less than an hour after meeting with Harrell.

Both Hackney and Harrell are Democrats.

The State Board of Elections began an audit of Harrell's campaign finance report this week, which Hackney described as appropriate.

"These are proper forums for these matters to be examined," Hackney said in the statement.

Re: Hackney requests Harrell investigation

Career politicians breed corruption and lies. Vote them out or they and their cronies either die in or retire from office.

Option one....you win
Option two....you lose

The GA is ripe.
