Hackney knows 'all about' Mecklenburg

N.C. House Speaker Joe Hackney blasted Republican legislators today for "trying to fight against us at every turn" during the last legislative session.

Speaking to the Charlotte Uptown Democratic Forum, the Chapel Hill Democrat outlined the difficulty of balancing a state budget that had a $4.6 billion shortfall, Jim Morrill of The Charlotte Observer reports. The Democratic controlled General Assembly used a package of cuts and tax hikes and federal stimulus money to balance the budget.

"We did what we had to do to protect education and our universities," he said, adding that Republicans did nothing but ridicule Democratic proposals. "This session (they) were not serious about government ... It's a national trend."

Hackney also touched on matters closer to home.

"There's often a perception in Mecklenburg, I am told, that nobody cares about Mecklenburg," he said. "I can assure you I keep up with it. I know all about 495," he added, before someone corrected him that it's completion of the I-485 beltway that is a concern to Charlotteans.

"485, same thing," Hackney said quickly.

Speaker Hackney should speak with his caucus members more often

Speaker Hackney's comments are another turn in the spin cycle House democrats are using to explain ill-advised policies for increasing taxes and for continuing wasteful spending.

If Speaker Hackney's Chairs of Finance and Appropriations Committees updated him accurately, he should know House republicans made several serious proposals regarding the budget. Virtually all of the republican proposals were defeated in committee or on the House floor. The unfortunate result is a budget that has already destroyed jobs and that will delay our recovery. Republicans opposed the budget because it placed an undue burden on working families and small businesses and many of the cuts were in the WRONG areas. How could we possibly vote for such a budget?

The House Republican Caucus extends an open invitation to Speaker Hackney and any democrat member to publicly debate the reasons why the 2009-10 budget was BAD for North Carolina.

Here's something that may make you laugh to keep from crying.

"Top 10" Democrat Spin on the North Carolina Budget

If this is what Speaker Hackney is referring to when he says we ridiculed the budget, tell me what part of this is incorrect?

Re: Hackney knows 'all about' Mecklenburg

Hey Joe Hackney, what about the $Billion$ you and your crowd STOLE from the NC Highway Trust fund???

and NOW, you people want to force a MILEAGE TAX on us after we buried that idea for you a few months back?

Folks, go to www.NCGO.org and note their list of members who are trying to push this outrage on you! Call them out in your communities.
They want to mandate GPS chips in every auto to monitor and TAX you for things like: driving in heavy traffic during peak periods, driving over bridges, etc...
On TOP OF the HIGHEST GAS TAXES in the region!!!

Joe Hackney, we know ALL ABOUT YOU and YOUR CESSPOOL!

Hackney knows 'all about' Mecklenburg* Story

Yeah! But what does know about the " Mecklenburg Panthers?" Did he know that Jerry was going to fire his sons and when did he know about it?

Re: Hackney knows 'all about' Mecklenburg

Mr Hackney, I hope this does not insult your intelligence. I am not running for House 33 against the former Wake County Schools chairperson because I agree with your positions on issues.

Rosa Gill has voted the Democratic Party line on EVERY single vote. She has only her own personal interests at heart. Rosa Gill has her eye on any paying job within the Governor's perview.

I on the other hand have the interests in bringin jobs, peace, and propserity to House 33 and specifically southeast Raleigh.
