Gubernatorial candidates final debate

The gubernatorial candidates met for their final debate Wednesday.

Democrat Beverly Perdue, Republican Pat McCrory and Libertarian Mike Munger argued over school vouchers, crime and open government during an hourlong debate on a Charlotte TV station.

Perdue repeated charges that McCrory opposes children's health insurance and vetoed a bill to put more police officers on the street. McCrory cast Perdue as part of Raleigh's "culture of secrecy."

After Perdue cited her endorsement by law enforcement groups, McCrory dismissed them as "union organizers."

At times, Munger seemed trapped between his rivals. (N&O)

Re: Beverly caught in a lie

Well, I agree with the positive adjective for Perdue. As for status quo, why is it that McCrory lets RGA handle those ads b/c he "legally" can't stop them-now that's a status quo kind of lie. I keep seeing McCrory talk about Perdue's negative ads...at least she doesn't hide and let others do her dirty work. And I suppose that McCrory, whom the Charlotte City Council said was a nonfactor, would know what to do with a budget of any amount? Come on, he has no experience whatsoever!

Re: Beverly caught in a lie

PickingPerdue, this is going to be fun. You seem to be knocking a lot of democrats and independents in Charlotte as with a 2:1 or 3:1 advantage over Charlotte's republicans, they were the ones that kept him in office for 7 terms.

Regarding Perdue, listen to her interview by the Raleigh editorial board and you will find that she is not intelligent or focused. Don't forget the more accurate adjectives for Perdue of status quo, corrupt and "positive". On top of that, she is promising things to union supporters that she won't be able to deliver given a $230 million budget deficit.

Re: Gubernatorial candidates final debate

A debate with Pat McCrory is like a junior high school student council election...his misused words, misinformation, empty promises, whining, profiling, smirking, laughing, talking out of turn, etc. No wonder McCrory won his student council office..kids like that stuff; however, he was underqualified then and he is so far out of his league now that I can't believe anyone would take him seriously. Charlotte stands behind him only to get rid of him...not on our watch, "mayor".
Perdue is refined, intelligent, and focused. She would never embarrass us the way McCrory does. He is totally out of his element.

Beverly caught in a lie

No input from the McCrory campaign, but can you say the same thing regarding your involvement with Perdue? Just a concerned citizen and an owner of a small business for years and years that is worried about the continued direction of this state if Perdue is elected Governor. Never blogged before this campaign and really didn't know if anyone was reading any of it. Yes, I support the Mayor.
FYI:
I personally read an AP article on your website, I mean Perdue's, that states that her “only pledge in the campaign” is to open a satellite office in Charlotte. I beg to differ. She has also pledged or promised to the Highway Patrol that she would reduce their ability to earn a full pension to 25 years from 30. This pledge is at the expense of other state employees, including our overworked and underpaid teachers. Notice that she did not refute it in any way when it was raised by Mayor McCrory during the recent debate.

Why has she promised this to the Highway Patrol and what else has she promised to various individuals, groups or unions that will impact either other state employees or North Carolina’s taxpayers? And why doesn't the press follow-up on this story? Who believes that Beverly owes us an explanation?

Re: Control+C, Control+V

I'll tell you what is hilarious is New Media Writer (concerned53) at Pat McCrory for Governor, ringmaster of Bloggers for McCrory, Wake County Chairman (sic) of Women for McCrory facetiously playing the role of sockpuppet with McCrory talking points 24/7 here at the Dome. All that cutting and pasting must leave you breathless.

Beverly's rehearsed response-Twice

Speaking of old rehearsed talking points: When it was Beverly's turn to answer her question about crime, she literally stood on her box and started off with, "I will be tough on crime and smart on solutions!" Because she was so general with her answer, one of the moderators surprisingly asked a follow-up question to get specific details on what she would do. Her response to the follow-up question started with: "Well, I will be tough on crime and smart on solutions....."

Hilarious.

Re: Gubernatorial candidates final debate

I thought McCrory done very well, Munger was fair but at times a bit odd, Bev was more of the same old rehearsed talking points we have been hearing from her since the begining of this campaign, and the previous 8yrs.
