Graham's campaign contributions

Bill Graham has given $223,650 to Republican candidates and groups over the past decade.

But he's also given $6,000 to Democrats.

According to a quick review of campaign contributions listed on Open Secrets and Follow the Money, the Republican gubernatorial candidate has donated to a long list of candidates—including Gov. Mike Easley.

As with his primary rivals, the biggest beneficiary has been the GOP.

From 1999 to 2005, Graham gave $52,000 to the Republican National Committee. Between 1998 and 2007, he gave $46,700 to the N.C. Republican Party Executive Committee and $650 to the state Republican Party. And in 2003, he gave $17,000 to the National Republican Congressional Committee.

He also donated to two major political action committees: $15,000 for the Leadership Circle PAC run by U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole, and $10,000 for the American Spirit PAC run by former Sen. Jesse Helms.

Correction: An earlier version of this post misstated the party affiliation of a House candidate.

Graham has given the most to Republicans. From 1998 to 2003, he gave $9,000 to U.S. Rep. Robin Hayes; from 1999 to 2000, he gave $8,000 to Republican gubernatorial candidate Richard Vinroot, and between 1999 and 2006, he's given $5,100 to Dole.

At the national level, he's donated $2,000 apiece to former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, former North Carolina Sen. Lauch Faircloth, South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham, Arizona Sen. Jon Kyl, Ohio Sen. Mike Dewine and North Carolina Congressional candidate Dan Mansell.

In 2000, he gave $1,000 to President George W. Bush's campaign.

At the state level, he gave $1,000 to lieutenant governor candidate Betsy Cochrane; $500 apiece to Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler, Labor Commissioner Cherie Berry and Supreme Court candidate Eric Levinson; and $200 to lieutenant governor candidate Andy Nilsson.

In the legislature, he's given to Republicans: $4,000 apiece to House candidates Hugh Blackwell, Hal Jordan and Joe Boylan; Senate candidates Gus Andrews, Keith Presnell and Jean Preston; $2,500 apiece to House candidate Ed McMahan, Rep. David Miner and then Sen. Virginia Foxx; $2,000 apiece to state Sen. Austin Allran and House candidate Fred Steen, and $1,000 to state Rep. Curtis Blackwood.

He's also given to national Democrats: $1,000 to Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer in 2000, then a U.S. Senate candidate.

And he's given to legislative Democrats: $2,000 apiece to House candidate Hugh Blackwell and Rep. Wayne Goodwin; $1,000 to Rep. Phil Baddour; and $500 apiece to Reps. Bruce Goforth, Ray Rapp, Becky Carney and Lucy Allen.

And then there's $1,000 for Governor Easley in 1999.
